Food flask

Options
Morning all.  I start a new job on Monday and as I don't know what the situation is with shared microwaves and of course covid I've invested £5.60 in Morrisons on a food flask.

In the past in colder days I've taken home made soup or risotto or more occasionally leftovers to work and heated in the microwave. I'm planning on taking soup to start with but wonder if anyone has any other ideas ,  I have my main meal in the evening and it's an indoor office based job so I'm not really thinking of casseroles etc.  I'm assuming risotto won't work? Pasta also?

Thanks in anticipation, first batch is going to be lentil soup...

  • I love a good lentil soup and really any autumn/winter type food.

I have found mine is best for anything I can make in the slow cooker but I really just stick to leftovers. I would have stew or cottage pie and just have a smaller portion. I make pulled chicken, pork or burrito filling quite often and enjoy taking leftovers with a wrap and cheese in a lunchbox. Curry is always better the day after and i just take a naan separately. Rice does hold up and pasta is ok but I do find it gets a soggy. I have taken sweetened porridge oats and then added fruit and seeds later.

Excellent. Left over curry definitely happens.   I often do a spinach and potato curry (but always forget how far down the spinach reduces) and am going to try Jack Monroe's peach and chickpea one.

As it's a new job may I suggest you avoid curries or similar strongly smelling, maybe garlicky items at least until you know how the office is?
To paraphrase old adage on new jobs, eyes & ears open with mouth shut no smelly food

Good point Fairway.  The two mentioned above aren't particularly smelly but I'll be starting with soup and shall see how the land lies
  • I've been making this Bean & Barley Soup a lot lately - the barley makes it thick and filling, a perfect winter warmer. I used a leek instead of the fennel.
