This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Still dark and we have some mist this morning.
Dinner last night was seasoned chicken thighs, veg rice and pasta with a creamy tomato sauce.. Tonight will be something quick with chips.
I got the chores done yesterday that I wanted, today I'll be heading to the SM first thing to do the food shop.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your day.
It's dry here and should be most of the day so I've put the bedding on the line, hopefully it'll stay dry until I get home. It should be good tomorrow too so the towel wash can go in tonight ready.
Calmer day at work but still busy, one of my colleagues went home ill again although she has had the test and is clear. It's just annoying that she comes in and goes home part way through the day so never has an absence recorded. Also means I don't get a lunch break so can be a long day.
I did some shopping on the way home and put fuel in the car, I was running on fresh air!
tru - your evening sounded lovely, what a treat.
RR - well done on being so organised. I'm getting there, putting presents in bags is so much easier than wrapping!
Hope you all have a happy Friday. Take care. XX13 -
Morning
monnagran Thanks for that, I'll get a heat pad. Your post reminded me that I had one single-use thermal pad. I stuck it on just before I went out, it made our walk a lot easier. I also have a wheat bag so will warm that up if I need it. I also have a hot water bottle - mum popped round about a week ago and gave me an article about wills that she'd cut out of the paper and the hot water bottle. Is she trying to tell me I'm getting old?! lol
Our evening at our friends really was great. I have a similar set-up here but not really, lol - the table and chairs are plastic, the thing to cook on is a BBQ and we have firepit, one of mr tru's customers was throwing it out and they said he could have it. I filled it with wood but it's very old and I think if I try to light it, the bottom will fall out. Looks nice though, lol.
Mr tru told his boss he was happy to do ABC but not XYZ. Boss immediately agreed, which is surprising because he won't do anything unless it's his own idea/plan. So mr tru is still working at the moment, though I wouldn't be surprised if he's furloughed by the end of next week.
I hope everyone's pets are OK. We had loads of fireworks going off here, there are no displays organised so I have no idea where people are getting these enormous fireworks from. Scamp wasn't nervous – learned a while back that if he's outside, they don't bother him - but a few went off while were sat inside. He ran to the door, hackles up, gave them a good telling off then turned around, walked calmly back to his spot on the sofa and went to sleep!
There's a frost this morning so apart from our walk I'll be staying indoors til lunchtime. If it warms up I'll get a couple of jobs done in the garden this afternoon, if not I have Netflix

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope the sm is not too busy. Dense fog here when I got up but it is lifting very slightly now. Just to remind us it's November and more can be expected I suppose.
There seemed more fireworks going off than ever last night. I suppose because of no organised displays folks were buying their own. The loud banging ones make Sparkle jump but it's the blooming loud whizzing ones that upset her most. I swear everybody was setting them off outside my front window they sounded so close.
More xmas pressies ordered yesterday. The £ signs are rolling up quickly before my eyes! I buy for so many people, as well as close family, that I am usually buying throughout the year whenever I spot anything. Of course this year has been different as not been going anywhere to spot anything. I got off to a good start with stocking fillers in the after Xmas sales but then the job stopped! It's a costly affair buying everything at once! Bah humbug and all that!
Friday Tidy day has rolled round again but the usual head start was made yesterday when I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom. So just a dust and vacc all round this morning. I have been trying my best to eat from the freezer this week as I have ordered more frozen supllies from Iceland (due tomorrow) and want to tidy the freezers out in readiness. The phantom freezer messer upper has been doing the rounds again!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay sane and safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning, cold and grey start this morning, yesterday was nice and sunny.I just did stuff round the house yesterday, after going out to post a birthday card to Australia, and I'll continue with jobs today. There was a bit of firework noise last night, not too bad though, and we don't have any animals to worry about - even when we had a cat/cats they weren't bothered.Your colleague sounds a bit of a pain Camelot, you should be able to get a break.I had a bad night last night yet I was so tired after a few bad nights in a row, I'd expected to sleep well - sleep and me don't always have a good relationship! We're waiting for the kitchen man to give us a price for the new worktops and installation of them, he'll put the new extractor in as well. The man who services our boiler will do the hob, and DH has already put the new oven in.It'll rejuvenate the kitchen, should look nice.Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks12

Morning all
Cold and frosty here this morning but the heating has clicked on so nice and warm. I did not have a good night either so will have a nana nap later after lunch.
My lovely nail lady had offered me a thing which you put in your bed and it helps you to sleep upright its a bit like the top half of a deckchair that you can rise or lower, I shall have to sleep slightly raised for a while so this should come in handy she had a smaller breast op a few weeks ago and found this useful so I will go and collect it later.
I have a wash on the go and will hang it out for a while as there is a good breeze it can go on the airer in the lounge tonight and the fire will air it out. DW needs emptying and this mornings cups etc putting in and I will have a quick sweep round.
I ordered a few more presents yesterday so I have two more to get, my mum wants a food processor which will have to wait till pay day and we always get the inlaws a kind of hamper with really nice bits in such as cheese, crackers, wine chocolates etc so this can wait for a while too.
Camelot can someone else not cover your lunch ? its not fair you not getting one, or cant the lady hold on for a while to allow you to have a break, seems a bit selfish of her to me !
Have good days all xx11 -
Morning all Chilly here but the sky is nice just a few clouds dog has been walked and other than hoovering there isn't a lot for me too do . Last nights fireworks were loud and the dog didn't want to go out not even in the garden hopefully it will be quiet tonight . Dinner not sure will look in the freezer for inspiration . Have a good day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini13

Morning Campers, the sun is out again but we have that cold wind back.I did shift myself yesterday and got out in the garden and the fresh air cleared my head. I filled another 2 green waste bins with twigs and leaves and Mr Fix It decided to check the rain water drains, good job we did as they were filled with mud, leaves and sludge. Then we had to pull up the large manhole in our garden and clear that out too by digging the mud out with a trowel and then flushing it out with the hose....only to find more mud, yuck. Neighbours must think we're mad as we spent about 2 hours on our hands and knees peering down the hole while listening for the sound of running water
Success was had.....eventually ! Sat out on the patio last night with our little bonfire, eating hot dogs and watching the fireworks, they were going off at a rate of knots but they were very pretty with not many bangy ones.
Today I want to do a chest freezer re-jig and I'm going to take the basket out completely as it's annoying me. All I do with it is move it to get to the stuff underneath or feed items under it, letterbox style. I'll re-purpose it though, perhaps to hold my card blanks and envelopes in the craft room (which are in a messy drawer now) so it should make it easier to see at a glance which sizes I have available. I have yesterday's dry washing to sort out as I dumped it all in the ironing basket and gave myself a fright this morning thinking I had a lot of ironing to do ! The overflow stores need counting and the numbers up-dating too. Oh! and the bird feeder needs filling again. I was annoyed at the sparrows this morning as they were being thuggish and taking turns just sitting on the feeder while the great tits were waiting in the trees trying to get a look in.Right enough from the Welsh waffler today, think I've bent your ears (eyes)far too much for one dayTake care all, stay safe and sane on the lockdown bench. Hope you can have a good/successful day whatever you are doing.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Goodness, I'm late today. Overslept and haven't caught up yet.
I tried my soup-maker yesterday and was really impressed. It made two big bowls of veggie soup so I have one left in the fridge for today. I used up all sorts of bendy veg plus some broccoli stalks and it was lovely. I foresee a soupy winter ahead. It also makes fruit smoothies so the summer is catered for as well.
I've done nothing so far today so won't stay here gossiping. Just hoping that everyone is well and as happy as possible.

Morning all! Just! Just had a phone call from the log people to arrange delivery, finally remembered to order some...They'll be here next week, we should have enough to last until then because it's suddenly got really frosty cold. The heating is not working as it should, some of the radiators are not heating up very well, and of course, they're all the downstairs ones where we are most of the time, not the upstairs ones. Not our cat decided to bring a little field mouse in last night and scare it half to death batting it around the lean to so I rescued it and put it back outside under the log store, so hopefully it survived. Not our cat was very unhappy I stole it. We call him Fatty now so that's will be his name henceforth.I've been decluttering the porch to make room and tidy it for the logs so I'll finish that today and I've also started going through my books. I have two carrier bags already so unless I can find someone who will buy a bulk load, they're mostly going to go to the tip being as I found out they will take them in the cardboard skip. I could put them in the recycle bin but that's reserved for a stack of craft magazines. I'll check the online things that buy books for some of the textbooks but that also involves packing and carrying and posting and I really can't be faffed. It does go against everything I usually feel about books, but I want them gone.We had loads of firworks too, also odd because of the lack of proper displays. Camelot, that sounds a bit off and very unfair if you're pushed to the limits.Make a complaint, what will it hurt? Nanny, you've been super industrious! Have a break on me
Monna, I also have soup but mine is from a tub,I managed to get hold of my favourite from M&S with a very long date. I applaud your MSE ways
Ruby, that's lovely of her. One tip, not sure if I've said it before, get some tape for skin and tape down the tubes you will have coming out so you don't accidentally pull on them [ very ouch] .Scarlet, I smack you with the sleep stick and anyone else who needs it. Hey all reading along, hope you're doing OK, [stay] frosty Friday!

Late again! Decent day today. We seemed to have a ridiculous amount of fireworks,I suppose being near a park doesn't help.Consequently we had an awful night with Lyladog, panting and pacing from about 5- 11, despite dosing her.She was upstairs, downstairs and in my lady's chamber
I slept downstairs and she nudged me awake twice wanting reassurance. Hope there aren't too many over the weekend but not holding out a lot of hope. Just wish they weren't so loud these days.
I too made soup, broccoli & stilton. My veg box man had added a little recipe slip, and handily a piece of stilton, they get it from the stall next door to them on the market. They really are thinking of new ways to please, he says the market is dreadfully quiet these days .Food delivery has been so pizzas tonight for tea.I briefly talked to my BF over the border in Lancashire but she was on her way to meet with her DD for a walk.Hope all is well, take care x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
