Fixed Term Contract advice needed

Hi, I have a question regarding fixed term contracts if anyone can offer advice please?
My contract covering maternity leave is due to end at the end of Nov. I have received verbal communication that my contract will not end on 30th November and will extend to Spring. Now my question is, does the employer have to confirm this to you in writing? I assume yes because surely I need to sign a new amended contract as legally I have only signed to work til the end of the month?
I have not spoken to my employer yet as I want to research my rights first.
Thank you in advance

Yes, your employer should extend the existing contract officially in letter form. They've plenty of time yet to do so. Probably waiting for someone in HR to action their request.0

I'd suggest that you give them a gentle nudge. Only right that you have certainty.TinkBell82 said:

I don't know that you have to sign to say you agree to the extension. When we amend contracts we write and say something like 'as discussed'.Signature removed for peace of mind0

If you work past the end date the existing contract is still in force just the old end date is no longer valid.
The notice periods in that contract are now what determines the new(potential) end date.2
