Hi, i have a few questions about maestro & mastercard which i hope someone can please answer me with.
1) when using my HSBC maestro card abroad, i understand theres a 2.75% exchange rate fee. my question is,
is there another charge when i withdraw money from an ATM? if so how much % ?
is there a charge when i purchase goods in-store (abroad) etc? if so, how much % ?
does anybody know what the hsbc maestro cash advance fee is % ?
2) when using my POST OFFICE mastercard abroad, i have been told that there is no exchange rate fee.
is there a charge for withdrawing cash from an atm? if so how much % ?
is there a charge for purchasing goods in-store etc? if so how much % ?
and in the uk, whats for charge for withdrawing money from an atm with postoffice mastercard? or purchasing goods?
Thank you very much, my questions might seem alittle basic but its only because im not familiar with all this plastic rules & regulations.
again i thank you in advance

I used my maestro card several times while I was in the States back in October. One ATM charged me $3 for my cash, the other didn't charge anything. You'd probably have to contact HSBC to find out what banks abroad will charge you.
This is from the HSBC website -There is a handling fee of 1.5% (minimum £1.75) for withdrawing cash at Cirrus/Maestro cash machines overseas, unless you have Plus or Premier. Foreign exchange rates are shown on your statement against each transaction inclusive of an exchange rate adjustment, currently 2.75%.
I'd advise against using your Mastercard to take money out. It will be treated as a cash advance (2% fee), you'll start paying interest on the withdrawal right away, at a rate of 19.16% and it will be the last thing to be paid off when making payments to the account.Dave. :wave:0 -

When I was in America each bank seemed to have their own policies on charging 'non customers' for withdrawing cash - from free to a few $.
I doubt HSBC can tell you in advance, as they don't set those charges - you just need to see what the ATM machine says before you proceed.
Like using the non free ATMs in the UK.
