This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.It seems to be a quiet dry morning, I think the forecast is good so I'll do some washing I think.Yesterday was nice, so we had a walk to the park, there were quite a lot of people about. There's housework to do today, as always, and I must get a birthday card sent off to Oz, it's eldest DS birthday at the end of the month, I should have sent it last week really. There were queues outside the card shops yesterday, everyone getting their Christmas cards I suppose, or birthday cards for the duration of lockdown.I have plenty of Christmas cards and could always make some if necessary, anyway the supermarkets have some nice cards. So that's my day - hope everyone else has a good Thursday.Take care folks13

Morning All
Pleased to hear you're out and about again bella.
My Covid anti-body test was negative, either the anti-bodies have left or I didn't have the virus when I thought I did, I'll never know! We had our first positive test from a child at school yesterday so that's a whole class and two members of staff off for 14 days. There's an incredible amount of work involved in sending them home but an insight as to what's to come, I was exhausted when I got home.
Not a lot else going on, little Sophie was in fine form when I visited yesterday, she's such a joy but so loud!
Glad the dentist was able to see your Mum Gers, hope the anti-B's do their magic.
Have a good Thursday all, take care. XX13 -
Morning
bella I hope you enjoyed your day of freedom!
TravellingAbuela Great news about the caravan!
Friends asked us if we'd like to pop round for an hour for a drink last night, said there would be a bit of snacky food if we were hungry. Oh and bring Scamp, he can play with Ted and Mabel (french bulldogs). We let ourselves into the back garden as usual, intending to knock on the back door but they were in the garden – fairy lights on, small fire pit burning and his outdoor wood-fired oven (llifelong dream of his, finally realised a couple of years ago!) filled with chicken wings. A great big pot of beans appeared from the kitchen, all sorts of beans in a yummy sauce which she'd made. And loads of chunky sourdough bread. Brownies and ice cream for pudding. We were sat on wooden benches at a long table, all made with chunky wood rescued from a skip. It was as fabulous and cosy as it sounds. Also, as we're in lockdown now, it felt like a last supper, lol. Must ask them for the sauce recipe, it was delicious.
We left about 10pm and didn't realise how cold it was. We walked home – less than a mile – and my muscles tensed a bit in protest from the cold, hip went stiff and I was limping nicely. It's still a bit sore this morning, I'll be using the deep heat today.
Mr tru's boss is trying to stay open, deciding his business is falls under DIY and construction. It's a carpet shop. Mr tru is going in today and tomorrow, originally to sort quotes, check warehouse, etc. Boss wants to open the shop but customers have to make an appointment and he expects mr tru to carry on doing measures, visiting up to eight customers a day in their homes. We've checked with the National Federation of Flooring Lockdown Lawyers – yes I made that up because I can't remember their name, lol BUT there is a group for the industry, they've checked the legal stuff and he's not allowed to do what he wants to do. Mr tru and boss are going to end up in a huge row today and I hope he rings me so I can listen, lol.

Morning folks.TRU - that boss sounds mad though I suppose he's trying to save his livelihood, but should not be risking anyone else's health.CAMELOT - what a nightmare, all that contacting parents! My squishy time was very squishy and slightly uncomfortable though a flat white afterwards helped. 😀 The dreaded bus journey turned out to be perfectly fine. Bus was almost empty both ways and I found the trip quite pleasant. Mind you, seeing so many closed down businesses was very sad. Whilst I was there I popped into a building society to open a new savings account - I'm such a rate tart. This morning I'm meeting my friend for breakfast, poached eggs and great chat. I'll pick up a couple of cakes for DM to keep her going until Saturday when I buy the cherry pie she likes. For now I'm still surfing around the net for a bit longer. Time to wish everyone a very happy Thursday.14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Enjoy your days off. TRU your evening sounded absolutely lovely. GERS my DD queued to get in the bank t'other day to deposit a cheque and open a new account for middle DGD. It was acceptable to deposit the cheque but opening new accounts is not essential just now and that has to wait until things return to normal!
DD and lovely chap got the awning cleared and down yesterday and, as expected, a lot of stuff ended up back here. The garage now resembles Halfords! The girls already had 3 bikes here and now 3 more have joined them, plus 2 fancy scooter things! I am expecting all the bedding etc when its washed and packed as that always lives in the loft over winter. They had a word with the site owner and he is going to send the invoice for the static to me (nice of him!) and he wants a deposit to secure it! Better rein in the spending a bit!
I got more pressies ordered yesterday and feel to be seeing daylight at last. Youngest DGD remains almost gift-less among all of us as she can't think of anything she wants! Unlike middle DGD who has compiled a list a mile long!
So the excitement of the day will be a bathroom and kitchen clean this morning then an afternoon reading/gift browsing. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. GERS I hope DM soon responds to the anti b's. Take care one and all and stay sane and safe xx

Morning all
Sharp frost here this morning and very nippy we put the heating on a low last night and its all cosy this morning, I have taken the throws off the sofa and got them in the wm.
Still nothing from the hospital but fingers are still crossed that everyting goes ahead, my pre op is next week. So I can ask then just to be reassured.
More presents arrived yesterday and I wrapped them straight away and stashed them with the other presents, the only other time I have been this organised for xmas was the year my dd was born, she was due 18th nov and ended up arriving on the 28th so I had everything done and wrapped very early its quite a nice if very rare feeling
Tru your evening sounds wonderful I would love an outdoor log burner, we went walking once and stopped at a pub for lunch and they had one there, we sat outside and there was snow on the ground and we had bowls of hot soup and crusty bread, it was so cosy and a lovely memory.
Onto today dw needs emptying and washing sorted and a sweep through, dogs to be walked and another couple of presents to be ordered.
Have good days all and take care xxx12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Tru, that sounds a really lovely evening!
I have had a few days of mad activity, not sure what has got into me! Yesterday I cleaned the cooker hood filters, swept out the outhouses and rear lobby, raked leaves, chipped the final wood for the compost bin, hoovered the landing, did some dusting (really), set on sone wine to ferment and after dinner, washed up and cleaned the hob. Undid a half done baby hat, I didn't feel the stitch pattern I was using quite suited the hat's construction, started again. This morning, in preparation for the washing machine arrival, I have located the stoptap, it has moved from where I thought it was, cleaned out the cupboard under the sink, am in the middle of clearing the washing machine outhouse. I was quite tired last night - wish I could say that I slept like a log but I didn't. I did fall asleep quite quickly but kept waking up. Still, if I were to add up the hours of sleep, it would probably be at least 5 so not too bad.
I have a chicken carcase so need to turn that into soup next and later I will have a go at trimming that awful thuggish buddleia. And hopefully be able to make a start on the washing - I've been washing our clothes by hand but the towels need a proper hot wash in the machine and the bedding has had to be stacked up. The weather forecast is good for a few days so I should be able to get that on the line in batches, please Mr weatherman, don't let me down.
I had better carry on now, hope you all have a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all, It's only 2 degrees and the sun is hiding a bit today, I hope it returns and warms up as I have a towel wash in the wm.I went to bed early last night as I wasn't feeling too good and I'm not really firing on all cylinders this morning either. I had plans for today, I wanted to work in the garden doing a bit of tidying up but I don't really feel up to it now, perhaps later. I have lots of other in-house jobs awaiting my attention anyway. Or I might just sit and let the day go by and I have to wait for a delivery too, no pressies yet, just car screen wash. Perhaps I could wrap that up for someone ?Lots of you seem to be doing well with getting the X mas cards and pressies sorted whereas I've not even started yet, I am trying to decide on presents but I keep changing my mind at the last minute. I must get my skates on and at least sort out DD's birthday present for early Dec.This evening I want to get a small bonfire going as I have a large bag of receipts ready to dispose of and we will have hot dogs and hot choc with marshmallows and cream while we watch it burn and hopefully watch the fireworks. I love watching the fireworks but I don't like the loud bangy ones.I've budged up on the lockdown bench so there should be plenty of room. Your cushions are in the cupboard at the back.Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently15

Morning all.
Camelot, that must have been a relief, to have a negative result on your test. I can't imagine the procedures for getting a whole class of children plus 2 staff set home for 14 days. The system wasn't built for this, was it?
tru , that sounds an idyllic evening. Do you have a heat pad for your hip? I've just bought one for DS1 who has slipped a disc and was in agony, despite visits to the sports injuries place. He reckons the heat pad has made life worth living again.
I bet you'd like to be a fly on the wall when Mr thru tells his boss his fortune.
Gers, hope you enjoy your breakfast. And the cakes!
TA, do you charge storage fees? Only I have a few boxes.............
I can't believe how well organised for Christmas you are. The only thing I have organised is my DGD's Advent Box and the cards I bought in last year's After-Christmas sales. I think that adults will be given my very best wishes and a jar of HM marmalade.
RedRuby, your mention of hot soup and crusty bread made me crave them. That's lunch sorted then.
AOD you make me feel guilty. There was I deciding if I would knit or sew this morning, and now I feel I must stir my stumps and tackle this midden of a house.
Coffee first though!
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
