Mattress buying: Haggling or finding the same mattress under different names

I'm looking to buy a mattress for my housemate/lodger's bedroom. I've found basically the same one as my own but it's a bit pricey.

I've heard that mattress manufacturers often distribute the same mattress with different covers and under different brand names to different stores which makes it difficult to compare prices. Is there a knack to doing this?

Also has anyone experience of haggling with the sales people in mattress stores? Did it work? When I bought mine, the sales guy tried to sell me a £60 mattress protector. I declined and then he threw it in for free anyway, so I suspect there's a bit of leeway with these companies. Has anyone done it?

I've done internet searches about specific mattresses and this sometimes turns up the information that X also makes Mattresses for Marks & Spencer's, John Lewis, etc., but now I buy all my mattresses from Hypnos (either direct if I have a lot to buy or via Premier Inns for one-offs) as these have proven to be better and cheaper than other good mattresses.
