Two-hour phonecall with Nationwide after AIP?

I have just received a positive AIP from Nationwide for porting my mortgage. Now, to proceed with the mortgage application, they booked me in to talk to a Nationwide adviser - the phone call will happen in 12 days (!) and should last 2.5 hours.
Since I already sent them all the documents they requested, does anyone know why the phone call lasts so long? Also, they might be busy at the moment, but 12 days seems a long time to me, especially as only then I'll be able to book the valuation, and God knows how long I'll have to wait for that?
Anyone in a similar situation that can advise if this is common procedure and how long the process takes?
Many thanks.

Wow. I have no idea what takes that long. Crazy.0

We had the same with NatWest direct. We sent all documents, were really simple case but did take that long. They gave us a break half way through!!0

Sae with Lloyds for me, then a long call to follow up and try to flog insurances etc0

I think I avoided all this before by using a broker.... Am just going to be porting my mortgage with then too so we shall see!0

I am in the exact same situation, I had to wait two weeks and the ‘application interview’ took one hour rather than the two hours advertised and the second half of it was spent trying to sell me life insurance and home insurance. Got to jump through those hoops!1

You dont get this with a broker - we dont have time for that. I get asked to do quite a lot of 'rescue mortgages' which have gone wrong elsewhere. If the client can get their docs to me quickly their application can be in within 24 hours of them asking me for an appointment.
Typically I would do two 15 min phone calls (one initial chat and one after aip to choose a product)
Intrigued what is talked about in 2 and a half hours?1 -
One reason why I don't go direct. I can't afford to just take an afternoon/morning off that easily, time is money and money well spent for a broker"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

I didn’t have this with a broker. I had a call from the lender that lenders about 2 mins to confirm I did apply and that my details were correct.
A good broker is worth their weight in gold! Even better yet my broker gets paid on completion! So it’s in their best interest to take time to place with a lender that will lend!1 -
I had this with Nationwide although at the time it was face to face. Its because they insist on going through every bit of the key info, trying to flog home insurance, life insurance, critical illness and maybe other crap, but I was asleep by then !For my last mortgage it was by a broker. Worth their weight in gold. None of all that crap selling lark. Sorts out the best deal, and obtains correct info to submit application. All within 24 hours.Id never go direct again!1
