Sainsbury's Substitution Vouchers

Had several recent shops delivered with substitute items dearer than those I ordered.  But didn't automatically receive credit coupons for the difference.
When I rang up to query was advised that the 'promise' has been changed and customers now need to ring them on 0800 328 1700  to claim the credit coupon.
Bear this in mind when accepting substitutes as getting the overcharge back may not be worth the hassle of making a phonecall.  It might be simpler to reject substitutes.

Indeed, when I order I state "no substitutes" to all items.

I had noticed this too .i got last weeks through contacting them on facebook - tried again this week and was told to ring them, and they seem to want you to calculate how much you should be due yourself!
    Thinking about moving to Tesco's!

Asda will automatically give price difference too

  • I received a substitution voucher this morning, a week after the shop was delivered. I hadn't contacted them.

Waiting for a Sainsbury's delivery in which some items have been substituted for more expensive items, and I understand they will give e-vouchers for a future order to cover the difference in price. However, I've just noticed this in their terms and conditions:

"Multiple evouchers may be used in one transaction but must be of different values."

Do they give one voucher for the entire order, or separate vouchers for each item? Because there's more than one of some of the items, and if they send separate vouchers this pointlessly restrictive rule means we will have to place several orders to use them all. Already annoyed by the fact that they don't price match on substitutions, and don't even seem to substitute with the next cheapest alternative which would seem to be the logical thing, if they're using the vouchers to lock people in to multiple further orders, that's just the icing on the cake.

I have just received a substitution voucher for last weeks delivery. It was came much later than usual, normally it appears a couple of days after the shop, but I didn't need to call them.

    Slight tangent question:

Does anyone know if Sainsburys include Postage Stamps under their 'Groceries' substitution policy? I have looked, and Postage stamps are not listed amongst excluded items.

For convenience, I ordered 4x12 2nd class stamps in delivery arriving this evening. They've substituted 1st class & credit card charged higher amount. Don't need that many 1st class but won't refuse them if I get voucher for difference :*

Looking at the T&Cs I would say 5. Offer includes grocery items only would imply postage stamps were excluded, but I would agree it is not explicit given the long list of excluded items.
