O/S Daily Friday 30 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Still dark, sounds blustery - not raining at the moment, but it is forecast again later.
Dinner last night was the LO lasagne, chips and salad. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
The spa was lovely and they are doing a great job of cleaning, social distancing etc, when I went in to use the pool, there was only 1 other lady in there and 1 man in the jacuzzi, and he got out not so long after I got in. Treatments were good too, definitely feel like I got a good deal - I got use of the pool, jacuzzi, fire and ice suite (showers with different sprays, temperatures, ice and salt rubs etc), a 1 hour facial including scalp massage and then 1 hour luxury pedicure with polish and a spiced pumpkin latte, When I was leaving the spa and going back to my car I noticed one of the back tyres looked a bit flat so drove back cautiously and went to our normal tyre garage who straight away looked at it for me and found a nail embedded - so a new tyre is needed and to top it all the last mechanic to take the wheels off (probably when it was serviced) hasn't put the locking wheel nut back in the car so we had no way of getting the tyre off, the mechanic sorted that and put my spare on but I'm going back today and they're ordered me a new tyre and locking wheel nut - so an unexpected bill, but not a lot you can do about it.
Today I'll be heading to the SM first thing then taking my car once they call to say the parts have arrived.
Working tomorrow so will have a chill day today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, glad you enjoyed the spa.
I was going to visit my Aunt down south this weekend but evil cousin has got involved so I'm not going. My Aunt hasn't been well and I wanted to see for myself how she was as evil cousing doesn't bother with her. I was staying in an hotel and meeting up with Aunt so staying socially distanced. If anyone wants 2 nights in Chester let me know!
The weather last night was awful and more to come over the next couple of days, I'm going to stay in I think and eat the chocolate and crisps I had bought for my journey! Maybe I'll get to meet up with the lovely Gers.
Friday again, not sure where the time goes but it's going pretty quickly. Take care. XX13 -
Good morning, it's damp and very mild here, for today only I think.NMLC your spa day sounds fabulous, pity you then had a problem with your car.Sorry to hear your planned visit to your aunt can't go ahead Camelot - relatives can be a pain.We went on a worktop hunt yesterday but everything is black, grey or wood, (or wildly expensive) and I've got quite a bit of worktop, so it all mounts up. I brought one sample home which might be ok, but I'm going to send for more, I've seen some on the internet, firms tht don't have showrooms near here.Called at Sains on the way home for a few things, then home for the rest of the day.I might nip out to our high street today and look in the charity shops.Have a good Friday everyone, and take care12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. What a shame your lovely little spa treat was spoiled by a tyre problem.
I had the most rubbish night ever and was awake most of the night. No one thing causing it, just an accumulation of worries and woes dragging me down. And it wasn't helped by some motor or other making a right racket about 3.00 a.m. and a bright light shining in the garden of the house round the corner. Their house was lit up like the illuminations too. Goodness knows what was going on there!
So the inevitable has happened, we have now moved up a tier, so you already on Tier 3 shove up and make room for a little 'un, (and cat). It won't really make any difference to me as the extra restrictions are not things I partake in anyway!! At least we can still have our support bubble (for now) DD and girls are still away but life, such as it is, will return to "normal" next week.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. SNOOZER I hope you get better news today. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Windy here today but it's not meant to rain until this afternoon, hopefully we will still move to the marina as im really looking forward to having not water.
Camelot, sorry you can't visit your aunt.
Scarlet I'm glad you enjoy my blog, I have granite worktop and breakfast bar, it's horrible, everything I drop on it smashes and I drop stuff regularly as my grip isn't good and it's so bl00dy to lean on.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.14 -
Morning folks.NMLC - your spa time sounds really relaxing. And so the rain keeps coming. We'll be floating down the road soon. 😀
All my deliveries arrived yesterday, sausages included. The Marks beauty box is good, perhaps one too many hair products though I'm impressed. Last year I bought the advent calendar to give as a gift but felt it was just too much. This year the smaller box is better. I've ordered a second one to send to a friend.I really need to go out this morning. A trip to the tip is a must, there's piles of packaging to get to the recycling dumpster. The sausages came in an over-large polystyrene box, stuffed with shredded stiff card a cardboard box too. I may struggle getting it all downstairs.CAMELOT. - a definite maybe!Happy Friday to all.13 -
Morning all, thank you for starting the thread nmlc. Glad your spa time was good but a shame about the tyre.
Snoozer, hope the news is better today.
It is not raining yet, a first for several days, though the forecast is not great.
I have a big pot of chicken stock bubbling away, I will strip the meat and it will be a pretty basic but tasty soup once I add in more veg. That is my mse bit.
I have to do some handwashing as we will be waiting until next Thursday for new washing machine to be delivered and installed. Fortunately, I can still use the old one to spin, it is the rinse programme that is borked. It has been leaking a bit for a while but now water pours out in the rinse part, which is nbg because the only way to get the detergent out is to do a couple of extra rinses which leads to the outhouse becoming a lake. I can manage clothes but bedding is too much in a small kitchen sink and I like towels to have a good, hot wash so those are piling up, fortunately we have enough of both (I hope).
I was so cold the night before last that I put a comforter on the bed last night but still woke up several times, despite being tired from waking up shivering so how much stuff gets done today is a mystery but it hardly matters really.
I need toast!
Hope everyone has a good day and that Hester gets on the marina, lovely hot water.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
Terrible night for me too and same as TA no reason for it except things going round in my head I last looked at the clock at 4 this morningwill need a nana nap later for sure !!
Not raining here atm but more due later and all weekend, dd is at home this morning so im hoping she will take the dogs out to save me going, i just dont have the energy.
Scarlet we used 'worktops direct' when we did our kitchen fab service and they will deliver on the day you specify, its not good to have worktop hanging around too long before fitting it (OH is a carpenter ) its worth having a look any way xx
Not sure about dinner tonight I got some chicken out so will do something with that maybe a chow mein type of thing, will see what we fancy later.
Three weeks today is my op and hopefully by this time I will be away on LA LA land and not sat waiting for hours and hours like last time, Nels was my saviour that day as she along with my dd kept me sane by messaging me all day and making me laugh bless her.
Right better get on WM is about to finish.
Have good days all and take care xx

Thanks everyone, there has been no change so far.
I deep cleaned the fridge yesterday and threw out a lot of opened jars that have been sitting there for months. Does anyone follow the guidelines given on the jars for use after opening. We never use up chutneys and pickles in the few weeks stipulated but I tend to think if it's high sugar content or in vinegar it will be fine. I had quite a few jars with a few spoonfuls left though so I got rid of them.
We also put the living room back to normal - when Ziggy's here we cover the pale blue settee and we'd also moved the coffee table so that Esben didn't bang his head on the sharp corners. Today I shall sort out the dining room aka craft room which has become a bit of a dumping ground. Don't know what to have for dinner, we had bangers and mash last night with mash we had in the freezer so it was very easy, I'll do something similar tonight.
Tru, nice to see you posting again.14 -

Weather not too bad here atm aka its not persisting it down yet
No fantastic plans today sadly although it is of course bin day which is thrilling in itself
Food wise I have some chilli out so will have that with a fajita wrap far too much cheese and sour cream
Edited tomorrows shop this morning and all I can say is OUCH. Got some bit in for the C word including a turkey crown and some pigs in blankets. Dont think Ive ever shopped so early (no one could ever call me a prepper for sure) This year is so up in the air seems to be the right thing for me
Have a good day all and keep smiling12 -
Morning all another wet day in store for us. I didn't sleep well either but I think mine was self inflicted....... too much garlic in the lemon and garlic chicken that we had for tea, but it was very tasty.Today is a bit pants as it's DGD's 9th birthday and we can't be there and DD has a chocolate cake ( my favourite) which would feed the 5,000
She can't have her friends around for tea either yet they'll all be back at school together on Monday...... that's bonkers. We have video called her this morning and seen all her presents, think she has been spoilt again this year.
Yesterday Mr Fix It helped by putting the van cushions away but they had to come out again as every time you opened the cupboard you were met with an avalanche ! There is still a playstation 2 to re-home and hopefully it will go in the office cupboard. I did find a big bag full of electrical stuff, wires and motors under the day bed so himself has promised to sort through it ( he will have to take it up the shed though)We have now sorted the house insurances and after a bit of haggling we will pay less than last year, very MSE. I did a bit of window shopping via the laptop yesterday and came up with nothing concrete. I have no idea as to presents this year but we have asked DD to sort out the DGC and we'll give her the money. Oh well back to the drawing board. I have a shopping list to sort out later and I will get Dad's tonight when I ring.Snoozer hope you hear soon.Right I'm off to empty the DW and maybe do a bit of freezer juggling......... the food inside, not the actual freezersTake care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently9
