25 year old with autism debt diary

It's time to take responsibility?!
Hi everyone, I have been reading some of your diaries and am so inspired and in awe of you all and your commitment to solve your debt. My debt isn't very large, (couple of thousand on credit card or so and thousands to parents), but it's big enough for me to worry about as I don't work due to my autism. I keep going on Amazon and spending my monies, (monies I don't really have), so it's time for me to be held accountable!

Money owed as of 28th October 2020
Virgin Money Credit Card: £2,343.56
Family and friends: £6,087.50

NB: I did have over £3,800 a year ago on credit card, so have got rid of a lot of debt.
I have been in touch with StepChange and have enough money to make payments to credit card.

I will post my SOA soon.

Cheers!

Hi and welcome Alex! You'll get lots of help here even by just reading diaries. I personally found it much better when I made a strict budget (and stuck to it), I keep a spreadsheet and update every time I spend. I allocate money to all my bills etc and have a forecast of what my debt will be in the coming months until I get to 0. Good luck!

  • Avoiding boredom shopping is a must for me.
If your not working, perhaps have a plan of things to do to occupy your time.
I'm terrible at forgetting things that I want to do so I have to 'plan' it into my day.
Could you take a free on line course / learn a new skill ?

Hi, thank you! Yes, I need to make a strict budget. I haven't had Amazon delivery in over two weeks now, that's a good sign! Thanks. Hope you will pop in from time to time and keep me accountable haha.

Yes, I need to do the same.
Thank you. I need to plan each day too because of my autism.
Learning a new skill or online course is a good idea - thank you! :)
