Financial connections on credit report

I never realised the importance of a financial connection on credit reports until I recently got rejected for a re mortgage due to a connection with my ex husband from 18 years ago! He has a bad credit rating and as he is still a connection to me on my credit report they search his credit report also when applying for a something as serious as a mortgage. I didn't realise this and have only learnt this week. So I hope this post helps others. A financial connection will remain on your credit file forever unless you request to get it removed and prove that you are no longer financially connected.

It’s interesting that you should post this tonight Agentmomo. I recently applied for a mortgage with my partner but it was declined because of my credit history (old defaults but still on file). 

My partner is now applying for a mortgage on her own but when we first applied jointly for a mortgage we became financially associated - so I’m worried that’s going to cause a problem! We don’t actually have any joint accounts or any financial connections - just the application. I’m hoping it doesn’t hold my partner back when they try and move forward purchasing the house.
