Hi Everybody, Just an update: of what happened after that.
I asked the debt recovery agency (STA international) to give me a proof as to why I owe them such and such amount and even asked them to do take me to court. In result they sent me a fake contract ( a contract which had different dates than the one i signed and on the contract that they sent me, my signature was not present). they changed the date and sent me the fake contract to justify them asking me for the whole amount as due to the original contract that I signed I would not owe any amount.
I told them that the contract that they have sent have wrong dates and even my signature is not present there. and cherry on top even my name was not present on the last page of contract where it is signed. It was literally empty. here is a funny thing, the debt recovery agency sent me two contracts (The original one that I sent them they resent me) and the fake one. When I asked them that YOU sent me two contracts which of them is correct they didnt have anything to say but just that their client have sent it bla bla. The debt collecting agency was not listening to me no matter what I said to them. They kept on saying that they will take me to court .
Eventually I contacted student union and when student union advisor sent an email to student roost head of legal, she replied that they are now going to waive of everything and my account will be closed. She said that the wrong contract that was sent to me was due to some it issues that they have and they outrigthly denied that they deliberately sent the fake contract. I also got an email from STA international that my account is now closed as per their client instruction and they will not contact me regarding this case.
Overall I had a sigh of relief, the debt recovery agency literally broke me this much that I was asking them to please take me to court and they were just delaying it. Moreover I had hours of call with them and asked them a simple question, how exactly a contract is enforcable if it doesnt have my signature on it. if it is an online contract even then it generally have the online signature and timestamp but both of them were NOT present. Also I told them that they sent me two contracts and how exactly are they enforcable. Even student roost representative outrightly said to me that they are not going to reply to my emails.
I was sick of all of this and requested them to take this to court and just before that had a discussion with one of my friends who was a president at sheffield hallam student union, she asked me to send the timeline to here and she forwarded it to sheffield univ student union. After that when student union sent an email to student roost they agreed to whatever I was trying to EXPLAIN them for the last 4 years. and waived off all charges.

Debt collectors cannot take you to court, they were just acting on behalf of the client.
The client, still owned the debt, it was all just threats from the DCA to get you to pay up.
The client "could" have gone down the legal route, but that would have been their choice, not the debt collectors, its a common threat use to encourage a debtor to pay up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. So lets look at this another way...
Day one you on the spot took out a tenancy agreement and moved in.
Day two you decided that you didnt like it and so using the 24 hours cooling of period you cancelled the agreement. Your reason being the noise and smelly/unclean kitchen. Deciding to stay with family in Milton Keynes (Although later you talk about Hallam Uni at Sheffield, not really close to MK)
Day X the cancellation was refused by the tenancy cancellation board. You said you didn't unpack, so you basically it would appear you want a room for the night. The first thing my daughter did at uni was unpack and then go find the cat.
So sadly, in my eyes you owe them what ever they have charged you. Most Student accommodation contracts states your liable for X period unless someone else takes the room.
However my advice would be careful trying to push this to court as, its not 100% that you will win. Just because you cancelled with in the set time, doesn't mean you are in the clear.
Good luck!
