Buying a refurbished Delonghi coffee machine on Ebay - warranty/guarantee?

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a pretty expensive Delonghi coffee machine, described as a brand new but refurbished return. According to the seller I should be able to register it with Delonghi as a gift as I wont have the receipt. Does anyone have any experience of this? I just want to be sure I'm covered if it breaks down and I wont have to fork out to fix it.

It might be me...but why would a brand new item need refurbishing?

I'd contact De Longhi for the answer to that.  Like @Pollycat I'd wonder why a brand new item needs refurbishing; to be honest the way I see it if it's been refurbished it's not brand new as someone has already bought it and returned it therefore it's second hand!
