What are the maximum hours you can work per week?

Hello Forum
I wanted some advice please.
I am getting a new job which is 35 hours per week. But I may be getting another job too which is 18 hours per week (to work from home at my convinience) I have debt to pay off so this is they way forward for me. If the second job of 18 hours doesn't work for me, then I am planning on starting a home business. Idea is to come pay off debts and come off benefits.
Someone just told me that I cannot work more the 48 hours until I opt out. My questions are
1) So If I choose to opt out can I work however many hours I can per week?
2) Do I need to tell each employer that I am working for another company?
Once my contract comes through I may need more help as it is my first time getting a job and will have no idea what to expect.
Thank you

Bad idea to listen to 'someone' unless they know what they're talking about. In this case they don't. The maximum hours apply to each of your two jobs separately. No need to opt out of anything.lovesimpleness said:Hello Forum

Your contract for the 35 hour job may well specify that you can't work for another employer (given that they will see 35 hours as full time employment), or that you need their permission to do another job, so read carefully before signing anything.1 -
The previous answer was partially correct. Each employer must take account of the TOTAL working hours across all jobs.

You should submit a written opt out with your main employer.
