This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning folks.Just heading for the shower. This morning it's my usual Saturday shopping and then DM's crossword friend. I feel as if I'm stuck in an unfunny version of Groundhog Day. ☹️I hope that everyone enjoys their day and wish you all a happy Saturday.14

Morning GERS and all to follow. It seems the heavy rain is due to catch up with us at last today. I knew it would find us eventually. It was darker than ever this morning and it must be winter as I have just had my first seasonal bowl of porridge. Topped as usual with raspberries and blueberries. It made a nice change.
It's Groundhog Day here too. I am just killing time before the first (8.45) bus into town. I want a few things from Holland and B, a stock up of winter remedies from Bodycare and my usual trawl of the cheapo grocery shop in case any bargains to be had (in the spirit of MSE). Then the 9.40 bus back home for another day of same old same old.
I stuck to promise yesterday afternoon and stocked up a whole drawer of the freezer with sachets of hm soup. That should keep me going in lunches for a while, with the usual bagel or wrap.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care and stay safe folks x

Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry and overcast.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my porridge and first cuppa.. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was a change to the plan as DH moaned about what I had planned, so I swapped a couple of meals - so he'll get that meal during the next week. Tonight we'll be having a SM take away meal - we have one of these now and then as a treat instead of eating out.
The engineer did arrive and actually did seem to know what he was talking about - he was here for ages (approx 2.5 hrs) but he went to find the junction box and found the problem - in short, wires are made of copper this had corroded over the years and when he tried to test the wires/connection the wire broke in his hands - this now fits in with why our telephone line has periodically been so unreliable as the the connection has been dropping as the wire has been corroding - he's made a new connection and sealed it all and now we have a working telephone line again. Now just the battle with the powers that be for the compensation for all the time I've been paying for a service that hasn't been provided.
I did get done yesterday what I wanted too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Good luck with getting your money back nmlc.
Have a good shopping trip TA.
I have a delivery of my new shelving unit within the next half hour so am up and dressed. DD & Co are coming for lunch so hopefully DDs partner can put it all together. We're having spaghetti and meatless meatballs for lunch with some crusty bread. I'm also making a cherry pie, I've just tasted one (they were frozen) and although very nice they are very tart so will have to put some sugar in too.
Shopping last night was fairly straightforward, I bought a subway salad for my tea and really enjoyed it when I got in. The chap came to start filling the hole in the wall too (where the alarm box was taken out), quite busy for a Friday evening!
Hope you all have a happy Saturday and a good weekend. Take care. XX12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Gers.
I think a lot of us are stuck in groundhog days!
Cold and wet here, like yesterday. In the afternoon I was chipping wood in the shed with the door open so that I could have fresh air without being fully outside. I was just tidying up to come back in and a biblical torrent came down so I stayed in the shed and just watched the rain, rather than get soaked between shed and back door. It is windy today and the leaves are really coming down now. I can hear the wind, even with the windows closed.
Bellabella I hope your test is negative, I too have a runny nose but I think that is not a Covid symptom, and I don't have the other symptoms.
Two squirrels have just had a fight on the birdtable, fortunately a pigeon is helping to clear up the food split on the ground. Small birds are keeping out of this and are on the suet feeder where it must feel safer.
No really interesting plans for me today, I'm just going to carry on with knitting baby things. Once I've got stuck on the crossword, obviously as I do that first, then go back to it in case some answers have mysteriously arrived in my ancient brain. Amazingly, it is effective, I think my subconscious must go on puzzling them out.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
Raining here and set in for the day I think, OH gone to the boot sale but I suspect there will not be too many stalls today, dd is still in bed so nice and peaceful here for the moment.
Groundhog day here too apart from the log man coming later this morning, he is a friend of ours so I always make him a bacon sandwich and he gives us cheap logsit will be good to be stocked up for winter.
I might ask OH to walk the dog today we normally all go at the weekends but I am not feeling it today and I dont enjoy walking in the rain I may have a cosy afternoon in front of the fire instead.
Got my two mastectomy bras yesterday so that is another thing off the list the lady who served me had a tiny shop on an industrial estate and only served one customer at once and locked the doors so no one else can get in she was lovely and had a mastectomy herself so was quite knowlegeable, the bras are very functional and very comfortable but she sold lots of pretty ones for when I am healed so will go back. Did a bit of xmas shopping too but nothing really caught my eye so it will mean another trip out soon.
Pizza and salad for dinner tonight and probably some garlic bread nice quick meal. I have a towel wash on the go but that will have to go on the airer and in the TD later.
Have good days all xx11 -
Morning all! Yes, very autumn has arrived with vengeance looking out there today. This morning I'm going to catch up driveway coffee at a friends house, yes, you heard right, this morning...Later on I'll be receiving visitors to the pergola thing. I did a graphic design logo thing for a friend who's paying me in coffee and walnut cake, so she and her husband will be round later for a cup of tea and a slice of said cake, which looks amazing..She's a very very good cake maker on the side, weddings and all sorts..She sent a picture and it's a cake you think should be in Harrods or something...I am certainly looking forward to that. I did say don't go over the top, a bog standard cake will do but it appears she didn't listen...Other than that, I doubt much else will be happening today. Very creaky after yesterdays shennanigans. I did however, clean up the old box I'm turning into a table. Turns out, after a protracted google, it belonged to someone called R.A.Tregilgas [Reginald Arthur] who was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy Reserves in 1943 who was married to a Sarah Prothero. I did try to find out more but was not about to pay money to join a site. I have to wax it and polish it, leaving it with what other people call patina, but I call somewhat-messy-looking. I will clean the brass plate on the top properly though because patina is all well and good except when you can't read something and have to make a pencil rubbing. And I have brasso. Don't cry patina buffs....Gers, difficult isn't it? You know what makes groundhog day stop but you still want to live your own life in your own home so you constantly feel weary and conflicted. I feel for you. ENjoy your trip out TA. AOD, i like doing that anyway, just standing in the greenhouse watching the rain. Ruby, it's a bit surreal isn't it, shopping for an event that hasn't happened yet and no way to know how it's going to be. I wish I'd had a lady like yours ... Hey all readers along, hope you're doing sufficiently good, sit down and relax Saturday....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi9

Morning all, it's already raining here and the leaves are falling thick and fast from our trees.I had a surprise delivery yesterday of m&s flowers and chocs from Mr Fix It for our Anniversary today ( and apparently for putting up with him
) I wondered what he had been plotting with DD in whispered phone calls lately !
Dad is due for lunch and we'll have the roast beef to celebrate as it's his birthday as well (91 today). We'll have all the trimmings and then there is my HM cake for afterwards, if we are full we can have it after tea. Dad has asked me to cut his hair later too, I must have saved him a small fortune over the years in haircuts chez moi.I think I deserve a quiet, feet up on the sofa day tomorrow and between you and me I'm looking forward to it !Right I must get the veg prepped and lay the table.Take care, stay safe and keep in going everyone.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Happy Anniversay nanny and Mr Fixit

Morning all
Gers Im with you on groundhog day in fact I have so little to post now that's any different from any other day I bore myself so don't post as much
This morning I was up early which was a good job as my Asda delivery arrived at 7am instead of 8! No subs or missing stuff so all put away and sorted. Buying one or two extras atm to make sure the C word isn't too expensive in one hit. Cutting lots out this year as I'll be unlikely to have lots of dinner guests or any for that matter so its just treats for moiWe go into level 3 on Thursday which I doubt we'll escape from this year
I have hoi sin chicken noodles for tonight my version of a takeaway
Rubes glad your lady sorted you out with your new bra. She sounds a gem
nanny happy anniversary and happy birthday to dad enjoy your day x
Take care all x10
