Wrong Tax Code on Second Job

I have a main job where I earn £25,500 pa. I have recently taken on a second job to help clear debt. The second job is temp for up to 6 mths. I am paid weekly for the second job I will do between 18-27 hrs per week earning £10 per hour. I received second pay today from second job and noticed I had not been taxed, the tax code used is 1250L W1 which is an emergency tax code. The new employers are an agency and didn’t ask for a checklist to ask about other employment. I realise myself that this is wrong tax code. Do I ring HMRC myself and tell them that this is the wrong tax code and will they just deduct more tax off me the next week to make things correct?
Thanks 😊
Thanks 😊

Once the right tax code is issued then yes, more tax will be deducted, so make allowances for that in your use of these earnings.
The agency should have given you an HMRC Starter Checklist, so I think you could either ask if would like one, or speak to HMRC. Not sure which would be the quickest solution.Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
No they didn’t give me a HMRC check list. I presume the quicker I get HMRC to correct things then the less I will pay back?Savvy_Sue said:Once the right tax code is issued then yes, more tax will be deducted, so make allowances for that in your use of these earnings.

Not quite, you will pay the same amount of tax overall whenever it is corrected but the quicker it is corrected then you will avoid a large amount of tax arrears building up which potentially could have to be paid back all in one go.pippinpom said:

Yes. Your second employment should be on a BR tax code where you pay basic rate tax on all your earnings. Contact HMRC and they will issue a new notice of coding to your second employer. Better to do this sooner rather than later as currently you are receiving a second tax free allowance to which you aren't entitled.pippinpom said:
