Awkward Situation - Leaving Role

Hello.
Need a bit of help here!
I applied for a role back in Feb 20 and was put on a 12 month reserve list, in the meantime, I was successful in applying for an apprenticeship with the company I have been working at for the last 2 years in a permanent role.
The role which I applied for back in Feb 20 offered me a provisional job offer last month (which I have accepted) and I am due to receive a written contract next week once a start date has been confirmed (I believe mid Jan 21).
This leaves me with an awkward situation with my current employer as I am due to start a L4 qualification with them and my current line manager wants me to sign a contract with the qualification professional body (I cannot delay this any further - I have gone through it and it doesn't state anything about repaying back course fees should I terminate my contract).
What's the best way around this? It wouldn't normally be a problem, however, I have only just started this apprenticeship and wouldn't have accepted if I'd have known that another job offer was around the corner!
Thanks in advance.

- Do I come clean with my line manager about accepting the job offer? My notice period is 4 weeks so I would have to hand this over in December to prevent a gap. Do I sign the contract with the professional body instead?

Be honest. Your currently employer cant just sack you because you are starting another job in the New Year, and it means he doesnt have to pay to put you through a training course and saves his money.1

If they have been there for less than 2 years then they can let the OP go for whatever reason they want as long as it isnt a protected characteristic (age, gender, sexual orientation etc)bradders1983 said:Be honest. Assuming you have anything close to a reasonable relationship with your current employers it seems reasonable to inform them of your intention to leave in the new year and therefore avoid them paying for your training... presumably up til now you have been doing work under the apprenticeship and therefore this could continue until you start the new role.1 -
Thankfully have worked for them for over 2 years so okay in that sense!Sandtree said:
