Interdental brushes are a better way to remove interdental plaque but if you can't/won't use those - then the waterpick is better than not doing any interdental cleaning at all. Sometimes people tend to use plug-in gadgets where they don't use the simple 'analogue' methods.
Your dentist will have had good reasons for recommending one, I'm sure - and as they know your mouth, any opinion he/she has trumps mine. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.1 -
My husband has one and likes it, I prefer interdental brushes but he doesn't like them. We are truly a marriage made in heaven and agree on nothing.1

I use the interdental brushes then a water flosses. I wouldn’t bother with the Waterpik brand, mine broke just out of guarantee. Lots of them on Amazon around £25. Get a portable one.0

I have the Philips sonicare one after my dentist recommended it, I found it quite difficult to get used to and to be honest I'm still not sure I'm doing it right so I do that a couple of times a week and use old fashioned dental floss a few times a week too just in case! I also worry about the force of the air/water jet loosening fillings, but I may be being paranoid there!0

It really isn't powerful enough to do that. It barely moves any plaque! How to find a dentist.

My dental hygienist always says the water flossers a waste of money. But she said if you want to buy something then a Phillips air flosser is worthwhile, more so if you like to use a Gadget. But would like to know what dentists think of these, please?0
