Issues with Erudio Student Loan

Hello,

I have 4 mortgage style Student Loans, 3 with the student loan company, which I have no problems with and 1 with Erudio.

I defer all 4 loans on an annual basis, normally together with the student loan company managing this, this has continued to date, although honestly I am unsure about whether the Erudio loan was included last year but if I had the letter is would have been included on the deferment form.

So in the last year I have had no deferment letters or calls regarding missed payments etc. Until I receive a letter from a debt collecting solicitor who now owns and is collecting the debt.  I phoned Erudio and they said it is likely to be due to missed payments which means the terms and conditions of my loan now don't count.  I need to call the solicitor when I get my emotions in check!

My question is are they able to do this with no contact to warn me?  If I had known I was not in deferment I would have sorted it out straight away (as I do with the other 3 loans).  Has anyone else experienced this?

Apologies if this is a bit rambling, I'm really upset as I have always stayed on top of debt and don't know how this crept through.

Thanks

Georgie

A debt to Erudio is pretty much the same as any other debt, i.e. there are terms and conditions attached. It is your job to ensure that the deferment is sorted out each year, and saying you didn't get a reminder doesn't really cut it. They could just say they sent it. Sorry.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
  • Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

This is just a quick update in case anyone else reading this is in a similar situation, it would seem it isn't just a average debt.  Please don't do what I did and rush to arrange a payment plan, look into things first.

Having spoken to the Student Loan Company, Erudio should have been deferred at the same time.  And having read about people with similar experiences, Erudio are often at fault.  Getting information to find out when or if I didn't not defer isn't easy, so I will continue.
