O/S Daily Sunday 18 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and a brekkie bar whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was roasted herbed chicken portions, pizza, and chips for the menfolk. I had side salad instead of the chips. Not sure what today's lunch will be as we have some jobs to do that we need to get done. Afterwards we'll chill and get some food - either late lunch or early dinner.
Keep safe and well x

Morning al
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I've missed posting for a couple of days, nothing exciting happening here, just keeping the stove lit and keeping warm.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.13 -
Good morning and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
Like Hester, nothing much happening, I have washing on the go and at least two more loads waiting, plus a bit of hand washing. Other than that, no real plans for the day, other than getting on with baby clothes knitting. Sunday is a day off, even if all the days blur. I'll cook later, probably chicken.
I am continuing to make wood chippings from a big rotten log, I can only do so much in a day as my hands get cold and I know from experience that's when I have less control of bashing tools. I might do a bit later or might not.
I hope everyone has a good day and even if it is not an interesting day, that there are some fun bits.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning All
Cold and cloudy again today but still dry, I don't think we've had any rain for a week or so. No washing today, hurrah!
I went up to the allotment yesterday to clear the little greenhouse and it had gone, completely taken away to make room for a new poly tunnel! As it's a community garden I can't complain but did feel a little miffed until I was offered a full size greenhouse to use next year, happy about that.
I came home and set to in my own garden taking out some of the sweet peas and generally tidying up - I'll do more today if the weather stays dry. Feels sad to be clearing for the winter but I've had a lot of enjoyment from it this year.
Must do the shopping today, there's no green stuff left in the fridge!
Happy Sunday, take care. XX12 -
Morning everyone.Whilst today may be dry there is the threat of a huge swathe of rain driving in tomorrow. It's a pity that there's no sunshine, perhaps it'll show up later.Yesterday afternoon I had my flu jag. It's the first time that the health boards have taken over responsibility for it from GPs. The new system worked very well apart from an overbooking of patients which meant a recall. There were five or six nurses each in their own room. When I arrived it look like they were prisoners just waiting at their cell doors for guards inspection. 😀 I was in and out in under five minutes. After that I went to Boots to collect the beauty advent calendar. The retail park was really busy with queues outside a few shops, I'm so glad that I'm an early bird. There are lots and lots of people wearing masks outside in the street, probably because some areas are busy. The wee neighbourhood area where we are is one of two COVID-19 'cold spots'. Long may it last. Still, there were 15 deaths recorded from Friday so there's a way to go.I've looked at getting audiobooks though they seem very expensive (at least the ones I'd like to listen to) so won't bother. I'm doing a week of recording my radio listening time from tomorrow.DM wants me to make sauerkraut for her today so I'll be chopping onions and garlic later. Apart from that I have no idea what the day will bring.Happy Sunday to everyone.12

Morning all, been up since silly o'clock worrying again and to add insult to injury we had a text from DD this morning to say that the little girl who sits next to DGS in class has tested positive for covid
He now has to have a test too before he can return to school ..... or not ! Now I've something else to worry about. It's enough to turn me grey, if I wasn't nearly there already. So today I will need to keep myself busy.
The washing almost dried yesterday and this morning I have put another a load in the machine with a towel wash to follow. I need to dust and hoover through downstairs, but I can't start the living room till Mr Fix It finishes playing with DGS on the x box. I shall have to go round backwards from the dining room with the duster and hoover.I hope to go through the chest freezer this afternoon and get that sorted, it's had a visit from the messy elf again ! There is some ironing if I run out of jobs - only a couple of t shirts , or I could make another designer dress for B, but that depends if I can concentrate on it.I plan to watch the "greatest showman" tonight, at least it will be better than yesterdays film. Mr Fix It decided to cheer me up by us watching an underwater disaster movie. Now for those who don't know me in RL I have a fear of water ( it was bottom of the ocean ) and confined spaces ( as in diving suits ), still thankfully the film lacked a big hairy spider, or he would have got the hat trick !! Boy my nerves were shredded by the time the film endedNow I'd better go and feed the birds which are waiting patiently and the squirrel, which has just fallen off the patio doors sill and made me jump..... and laughGosh I'm waffling a lot today, sorry. Now I shall love you and leave you.Take care, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. Another dull day forecast but no rain, nor sun come to that!
So it's Slothful Sunday for me. No jobs planned, although there really should be! There's always tomorrow! Lunch for me is to be Chicken Pizzaiola. No-one's recipe in particular, just my own made up one. I'll have it with hm wedges and some salad. Albeit just a token gesture!
My oldest buddie told me yesterday that her DS's in laws have been tested positive for Covid. Such a worry as neither of them are in the best of health to start with and they have tried to be careful right from the start. It brings it home to you when it's someone you know and I can't stop thinking of them.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care, stay sane and safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Morning all.
Quick visit from me as I've been fiddling around and suddenly realised that I only have a short time left to shower, dress and get myself into my right mind before I have to set off for church.
Nanny, I'm surprised that the messy elf has had the time to visit you. I thought he had taken up permanent residence here. Him and a few of his mates. I think they had a rave here last week.
Hoping everyone has a restful Sunday. Hollow laughter.
Can't think of a MoneySaving tip today unless I cut down on my collection in church. I'm not sure that is acceptable. Oh well.
THOUGHT FOR SUNDAY
God thinks you are good enough. Now it's your turn. Believe it.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning all
Late start for me as I did not sleep well again I forgot to take my sleeping tablet and just tossed and turned for hours ! still nothing much to do today so it doesnt matter.
I have put a nice big bit of brisket in the sc this morning with leeks and carrots so a lovely roast today and tomorrow and should be enough left for some sandwiches in the week, I also get my beloved yorkshires today so all is well in my world
Yesterday we took the dogs for a good long walk and then stopped at the pub for a beer on the way home, the pub was so covid secure it was amazing, a scan thing for you to sign in on your phone on the way in, and then you choose a table in the covered garden and there was a button on the table which you pressed when you wanted something which went straight to the two owners watches it was amazing and very well done, we will go back for some lunch at some point.
Today will be dog walking and dinner cooking and a film this afternoon, we watched a brilliant film on netflix last night called 1917 a war film and so well done we were glued to it, well worth a watch.
Nan I hope your DGS is ok sending love to you all xx
TA I hope things work out ok for the couple xx
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all! One black bag stuffed into the bin, one black bag of fabric for rag or whatever at the dump when I book the next apointment and one bag full of stuff for the charity shop, a pile of jeans and some boots to go to the place that buys clothes, all tools hanging around gone to the garage, all other tools hanging around will go under the stairs which I was clearing out last night. It netted me six things to sell on facebook, and an old tool box to turn into a table so we can get rid of the other table that is a dumping ground. I wish I'd heard of a slob comes clean years ago.Today, more of the same but we will have visitors this afternoon to come and admire the pergola and I think I'll make some cheese scones. I made some a couple of weeks ago using a mary berry recipe and while I never find cheese scones all that cheesy, these were so light and fluffy it was worth it. Of course, i forgot the sprinkle of cayenne on the first tray and about brushing them with milk but at least I remembered on the second oneNanny, I've been imagining a tarantula in a diving suit now, you might have given budding film makers ideas
AOD, tried using wrist warmers? I find my hands don't get so cold when my wrists are warm and they're easy enough to knit or crochet or sew, just a tube of wool or whatever basically. Stay safe you lovely lot, I'm off to explore under the stairs Sunday...
P.S. thanks for the heads up Monna....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi9 -
Hi everyone
Just had a very nice fishfinger sandwich. Been down to mam and dad's this morning - sorted their IPlayer and did dad's computer jobs. He was reminiscing about collecting cigarette cards and playing conkers when he was a boy.
Little one stayed last night ...we sat in bed this morning and read books, all snuggled up. She eventually started shouting Out Out and tried to push me out of bed!
I have a gammon joint cooking in coke in the slow cooker and veg prepared ready to roast at teatime.
Gers - my dad uses Audible books for £7.99 a month- every book he reads I go on the online chat and ask to return them....you then get a credit to your account. No idea if you're meant to do this but I read it online somewhere and it works!
I too love scrunching through leaves like I'm a big child and will walk through the leafy part of a path rather than the clean side....even better if you have a small person with you and can actually kick them up in the air!9
