  • Thanks all for your advice, been truly helpful. Finally my brother has agreed to provide me with a bank statement but from a different savings account from the one he transferred the money from. He has well over £10,000 saved over 5yrs and he's willing to provide a years statement. Will they need to see the transfer from his account to mine since the statement end date was before the transfer?

They will need to see a statement covering the transfer to your account from the account the funds came from, not just a random account with some money in. The issue is the anti money laundering regulations, the solicitor needs to see the source of funds because otherwise they risk falling foul of the regulations.

Do you know why your brother is unwilling to prove the source of the funds, is there a chance they might not be legitimate?
  • We would only accept the account the transfer came from showing the month before and of transfer showing the money leaving his account and going to yours.
I am afraid I would interpret his behaviour as 'dodgy'. This is to comply with uk money laundering laws so not just being awkward.
