I have a Toshiba laptop that I'm still quite happy with 5yrs on, but recently for some reason the number 4 key doesn't always work. When it won't work I have to press the number lock key for 5 seconds or so & this will often do the trick, but just for that moment. Can anybody advise if there's a simple fix? I've checked that I have an up to date keyboard driver. I'm running Windows 8.1 should that be worth mentioning.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Have you tipped it up or blown into it in case there are any crumbs or dust under the key? Usually you can put a fingernail under each side of the key, pull up and it will pop off to clean it easier.

Look for replacement keyboard on Ebay for your model. They are usually quite cheap, and usually easy to fit without a major dis-mantle.
Check youtube, you may well find a video how to do it for your model. I have changed about 3 keyboards on Toshiba laptops, various models. The keyboard for this computer a Toshiba L755 can be found for around £10 upwards.

Although I've changed a keyboard before on an HP laptop I had, after spilling water on it, following instructions I'd found given to tech's by HP, I don't feel confident enough to do it on this laptop as this keyboard isn't set in on top as the HP one was & looks as if I'd have to open up the whole caboodle to attempt this. I'll try chris's suggestion & see how I get on with that. If that doesn't work then I will look on youtube to see if there's a helpful video on how to fit a replacement keyboad.

Tell us what model it is - my laptop LOOKS as though the keyboard is set in - but there is an easily removed strip of plastic at its top which then gives easy access to the keyboard for replacement. Do a search on youtube
