Some advice for my partner's brother please

Hi

I used to be a regular on here then started to understand my finances a lot better and felt a lot better about it.

I'm wondering if anyone else could offer me some advice please.

My partner's brother is having a few problems with Natwest. His dad received a letter from a solicitors the other day to say they were taking his son to court if they did not receive £4,870 by 15th December.

The money is for a £1,400 overdraft and then charges and solicitors fees on top of that. He has said that he has tried paying small amounts to the bank to pay the debt but they keep throwing more and more charges on the account. The bank says they have closed the account and will not accept any payments from him.

To be honest I don't know if this is entirely the full story as there are a few gaps in it but I wondered if anyone had any advice I could forward on to him to save his parents some stress.

Many thanks in advance.

If dad is receiving letters about brother's account, this breaks the Data Protection Act.

And this is brother's problem so parents should not be dealing with it or stressing about it.

brother needs to get himself on the phone or down to one of the debt charities ASAP with the letter.

    Hi

It was a letter that was sent to him at his parents address. The whole family at some time or another has told the bank of his change of address but they haven't changed their records.

Then they are breaking OFT Guidelines by haressing his parents when they know he is not there and the data protection act by using contact details that they know to be false.

Sorry it's me not explaining it right. The letter was addressed to him but gets sent to his old address when he lived with his parents and they've never changed his address details to his new house.
