It was agreed I'd receive it back in January, but it didn't come through until July.0

Your timings seem to be very confused. Above you said...
”After gaining my membership it took 7 months to receive the bonus payment and I was only told that there was a 'two year tie in' associated with it, I wasn't given further details and I didn't sign anything. When I agreed to receive it 11 months ago.”
And now you’re saying you agreed to it in January which was 8 months ago and that it came through 6 months later in July.
Even going by your longest time frame of 11 months ago (which would have been November) surely you’d be ‘stuck’, as you put it, for another 13 months anyway?-1 -
Logically, the 2 year tie-in would be from the date of entitlement to the bonus rather than the date of payment. The problem will come if the employer works on the basis of the 2 years being from the date of payment. That could end up with an expensive legal wrangle.

the tie in will be from when they sent you the email stating that there is a 2 year tie in and you responded to say you are happy with this.userdloat said:Okay thanks for your help. Question still remains about when the two year tie in began, I hope it's not from when it was paid considering it took 7 months to come through... I haven't got a spare 3k lying around at the moment so looks like I'm stuck
if i understood you correctly, the actual payment was not made until 6 months after this, so the company may argue it would be from the date of payment.
i don't think it is worth arguing over a point of detail. i would email HR and ask when this tie in period actually ends, so get a date confirmed from them.1
