Saving during bankruptcy

Options
Am I allowed to try and save some money (however small) during my bankruptcy? If so, are we allowed to open a savings account?

Of course you are, your finances will have been assessed at the start and you can do as you please with the money they deem you can keep.

I was with coop during my BR..they wouldn't give me a savings account after discharge  but Yorkshire Building Society did .

But wouldn't the OR think "well if she can afford to save then perhaps she can afford to pay more towards her BR?"

No. You are assessed at the start and that is it, unless you actually tell them you are now earning more or less.

I was discharged..so no debts to pay...no IPA in place.
When people ask this question we are talking about very small amounts

Are you currently in an IPA?

Yeah 36 months paying back a certain amount per month.
  • You should be putting away your emergency fund savings and also your annual expenses like your MOT etc. The OR won’t worry about that sort of thing.
