Phased return query

Quick question as I am not sure about the rules.  I am starting a very very slow phased return next week on a drs sick note.  I am going to be working a few hours a week at home as a trial.  On Monday I am going into work to get my IT equipment sorted out but not to work.  I am still ill so this trip out will leave me too exhaused to do anything for a couple of days so I said I will do my few hours work on Thursday.  I have been told that I have to spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as annual leave as I am not starting until Thursday.  After that the days I don't work are counted as the phased return not annual leave.  Any ideas if this is correct?  I have no access to my work policies until I get my IT equipment sorted out.

Assuming you get full pay and they've told you 6 days in advance (or contract says no notice needed) yes that's correct

edit: if it's A/L you going to collect equipment woud be purely voluntary

When does your fit note from the Dr expire? Would your Dr extend it until Thursday? There may be some concern of you coming on site if you are still officially off sick but a) they may be ok as long as you arent working or b) maybe reception can give it to you to avoid entering the office.

I only talked to my GP today and my last fit note runs out on Sunday but this four week attempt at phased return to work note is date from today (the GP cannot put a future date on the note).  I am expecting to spend an hour getting all the IT stuff sorted out on Monday.  I only started talking return plan with manager this afternoon.  I guessed that by Thursday I should be recovered enough from the trip into work to actually focus on doing some work. (Last time I attempted a trip this big I ended up in an ambulance going to A&E!)  Occy health and GP both ruled I'm too ill to come into work but I could do a couple of hours a week at home on a laptop which is perfectly true.  It just does not feel right that if the IT equipment could be set up and then brought to me at home I could save three days annual leave by working three hours on Monday rather than knackering myself coming in to work.  Ah well maybe it is what it is.  I do have a years worth of annual leave to take as I have been off for so long.  I will be able to access the policies on Monday so can find out.

If you recieve occupational sick pay and you still qualify for it, it is normal for any phased return tp be "paid" for out your remaining sick leave. If no occupational sick leave then an option is to use annual leave.

And after a year, it would be a generous company still paying occupational sick pay ...
