O/S Daily Thursday 8 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, damp underfoot after some overnight rain, although not raining at the moment - it's forecast for the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS1 getting ready for work and DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was the last of the lasagna - was good again with lots of flavour. Tonight will be gammon and egg - I have some new potatoes and/or some jacket potatoes .
Yesterday work was busier and the day flew by, I also got the good news that some training on a new to me area that was advertised and I'd shown an interest I have been selected - they only wanted a limited number of people and I'm one of them. The only downside is they are training on it today - my day off so I'm going in but will get credit for it. But very much looking forward to learning something new. So I have a few things to do that I'll need to fit round not having my usual time off this morning. I'm very happy I got selected as long term it will be another "string to the bow"., this will be a new skill that will sit alongiside my existing job too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc and well done, hope the training goes well.
Not really sure what the weather is doing at the moment, it's dark! Washing just finished and the DW is chugging away - can you tell I've been up for a while?
Pleased to hear you have a date RR, it must be such a strain on you and your family.
I had a great swim last night, not too many in the pool and everyone swimming lengths - there's usually some numpty doing widths trying to dodge everyone else. So glad the pool is still open, all the classes are now closed along with all the pubs and restaurants. Not bothered about the pubs but with the half term holiday starting it's sad that restaurants are closed.
Last day for me today, I'm taking some time back tomorrow so must get everything up to date.
Enjoy Thursday, take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope all goes well for you today. Evidence of overnight rain here but due to stop and remain just miserable all day!
Flying visit from me as I am joining DD on her marathon grocery shop around various sm's. I will go in any that look quiet and civilised but otherwise I will remain in the car. Following on from yesterday's chat on here about Eat Well for Less it seems quite a few of you do this. If there are savings to be had it would be silly not to. I have a Tesco delivery booked for next week so only need a few fresh bits myself to keep me going till then.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. I hope BELLA has better news on her poorly DD. Take care all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning folks.Well done NMLC.
There's my chink of sunshine gone for two weeks! The wee cafe I was at yesterday can only seat about 10 people yet has a licence so will have to close for sit-in customers. Can't see the logic about the licence bit and am so sad about it. Yesterday my friend and I had a great breakfast chewing the fat and enjoying the company. I drank too much coffee!
Today I have to collect a bag from Argos. I decided that DM needs a hospital grab bag for herself. Changing over stuff from mine to hers may take too long. Sorting that will fill a couple of hours today.I hope that everyone has a Happy Thursday.12 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Raining here again so I'm glad we shopped yesterday.
AOD, if the water level rise and/or the flow is too fast we have to stay put. Last year the Thames lockkeepers gathered boats and boaters into the locks to keep them safe, they were there for months.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
A nice dry day yesterday but rain again this morning.
Ruby, great to hear that you have a date and that you can have the reconstruction at the same time.
Went to the dental hygienist yesterday, my teeth feel nicer. I had my last appointment cancelled and although I've been to the dentist since, at that time it was emergency treatment only so it had been a year. She said that she was surprised to see so little plaque after that long. On the way back I went to emm and ess for undercrackers, b and m baggins for various bits and bobs and sainsbuggers for mince pies which I shouldn't be buying in October but oh well. Social distancing etc fine in emm and ess, plus hand sanitiser, ok in sainsbugs but in b and M I was probably the only one distancing and groups of people were maskless. So fingers crossed but I really did need some cleaning products and I can't not go to shops for the rest of my life. Also, before lockdown I had bought some command hooks for the bathroom, then discovered that you had to have alcohol swabs to use before putting them up and I wasn't sure if a cotton wool ball with gin on it was quite right and anyway that gin has to last until Christmas. So very pleased to find alcohol wipes and now I have to remember where I put the hooks.
Monna my method of making a list usually starts with have a wee, clean teeth, cup of tea because I know I will be able to cross those off.
I have to clean windows, they are awful. I'm not planning much else apart from messing about but you can't really put messing about on a list, it looks silly.
Hope everyone has a good day.
ETA on the way home, the primary school children were on their way home and I can't see much point in safety measures in schools when the first thing they do afterwards is roll around together and lick each other. The older children were in groups too, some wearing masks, many not.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -

Morning all, thanks NMLC and enjoy the new training.Well surprise, surprise we had more rain overnight but today is meant to be sun/cloud and showers
I have some garden waste to get in the bin but it will have to wait as I would be up to my knees in mud, now I'm pining my hopes on doing it on Saturday. I woke a bit earlier than usual this morning but just led in bed thinking about future what if's and nothing good was coming out of my thoughts. I had to shake myself to get up and I've had a cuppa and breakfast, I'm now ready to face the day, well I will be when I get myself dressed too
I have a long "to do" list but I don't want to tackle anything on it, so I shall also be messing about tidying today and hopefully get Barbie dressed as well. Her winter wardrobe is coming along very slowly because she's so fussy, she doesn't say "yes to the dress" very often ! It's my own fault as I make something then take it all apart again as I'm not happy with it, but I must concentrate and get on with things today. We now have 2 covid testing centres set up in the borough and we're not that big, but one village further up the valley is rife with cases so they've put one in there. We've never had so many cases, not even first time around. I can see me being on the bench for a very long timeTea tonight will be a spanish omelette using up the last of the gammon and some left over mushrooms and sad tomatoes from the fridge.Sorry for the me, me, me, post today.Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
Morning all
Its raining here and set in for the day I think, it will be a quick walk around the park today with the ball thrower, dd is off to a meeting today so it will be just me at the park which is quite difficult with little and large pulling in different directions !!
We have woken to the news that we may go into tighter restrictions as from Monday with talk of cafes pubs etc closing as in Scotland, how these businesses etc will cope I have no idea, I do feel for them, I just hope that my op is not cancelled again. I met with the lady from work yesterday which went really well, we have sorted out for the rest of this year between holiday sick pay and a few days unpaid and will meet again in January, they have been so supportive to me and I will always be grateful to them for that.
Dinner tonight will be fish fingers chips and beans, nursery food but very lovely, I need to empty and refill the dw and give the kitchen a quick once over and then sweep through, I need to phone the vet for little ones jabs and the dentist but I may put the dentist off till after my op as I dont want to risk anything.
Bella I hope your dd is ok, I am thinking of you xxx
Have good days all and thank you all for being so lovely xx11 -
Morning, it's quite a decent day so far, after all the rain. I have my sm delivery in half an hour or so , & will have something fresh for tea. I 'm doing my meal plan for the week ahead. I mainly do online shops & am rotating Messrs M,T and S so if I cant get a slot with 1 I can usually get another but have visited MnS and AldI too, seems to work ok for me. If my usual buys seem dear on one I wait until I can get it on offer. Having said that ,all the prices seem to have gone up.:(News here is that pubs etc may be shut again- they've only been open a week here! DSons friend with the bar in town doesn't know if they're coming or going, I feel so sorry for them, he and his brother invested a lot of money at the start of the year. They had a visit from the police at the weekend to say no live music, so went to the licensing office for confirmation it was ok, so not even the local police are keeping up with the ever changing rules. Quite a few of our younger friends are in the music industry and it's just been awful for them. Ooh sorry that turned into a bit of a rantRight better get my bags and baskets ready to transfer the grub on the front garden when the sm delivery comes- glad it's dry todayHave a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all.
AOD, I see no reason why 'messing about' shouldn't go on a Todo list. Messing about can be amazingly satisfying. In rare circumstances it can also be a bit productive. Go for it!
I've just read the new Forum Rules that they are pushing down our throats. Every post should have some money saving content apparently.
Well. Here is mine for today. On no account have children or grandchildren. I often think that if I'd not had either of those expensive indulgences I would be a wealthy woman today. And a much sadder and unfulfilled one as well.
Hoping that satisfies the monitors.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
You will never be criticized by someone who is doing more or better than you. You will only be criticized by someone doing less or worse.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.11
