Employment Law Help

Hi all,
I am looking for some assistance please and I thank you in advance. Just recently a colleague of mine on a team of approx 13 staff has just been given a new role without any internal or external recruitment or advertising. To add to this, he has been working at the head office during Covid 19 as agreed by management whereas the other members of staff have been working remotely so he appears to of been given an advantage by working alongside more senior members of the organisation. Any help would be appreciated

  • I want to know if this is legal and fair. What if the rest of us wanted to apply? Shouldn’t it be advertised to all?

Perfectly legal and sounds good commercial sense if they know they've got the right person for the job.

Wouldn't it leave you feeling pretty hacked off when it became apparent, as these things do, that the decision had been taken and they were just carrying out a paper exercise? It wouldn't make any difference to who got the job.

Legal, yes, fair, what is "fair". Tough. No.

Employers pick the person they think will best fit the position. I echo Dox's comment
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

unfortunately this is how the workplace works.  people are favoured and promoted over other people.  often it is about who you know that helps you to climb the corporate ladder.
