Barclays mortgage 2nd extension

Bit of a story so here goes:
We bought a new house off plan in October 2019, completion was May 2020.  The mortgage offer was due to run out in April 2020 so we always knew we would need an extension.  Our mortgage offer was automatically extended by 6 months in April due to the Covid situation.  This current offer runs out the end of this month. The house is not due to be complete until the end of November.  Barclays say they only give one extension, but have are looking at our case.  Nothing has changed financially for either of us, if anything improved slightly with a small payrise. This situation is totally not our fault and out of our hands, we would love to be in our new house!
Has anyone been granted a second extension from Barclays?

  • Hi I was in your situation last month, although with Danske. My offer was due to expire on 9th Sept and my house was not ready til 30th Sept. It was a complicated mess however i was able to negotiate between builder and my solicitor to bring forward the completion date to the 9th (whilst not moving in to the house was ready on the 30th). It really depends on how far on your house is and whether a valuation has been carried out. It was a stressful time but it did all work out for me.

With the bank not agreeing to an extension it meant i would have lost out on a good mortgage deal and possibly some money already paid.

Did your solicitor put a long stop date in the contract?

Barclays are under no obligation to extend the mortgage offered on the existing terms.
