What happens after I press the button ?

Options
I’m finally looking to press the button after ‘dithering’ about it for almost a year !!
After actually committing, how soon can I actually open a new bank account at Nationwide? And how soon before they freeze my HSBC account? I really worried because I get my UC payment on 8th, wage on 18th and child maintenance on 30th and I can’t change any of the dates ( ex-husband is not being helpful !!)
Also how long will it be before my interview with the Receiver?
Many thanks

I would be proactive before you do it and open a monzo account. When you have your telephone interview with the OR you can tell them you opened the new account on the basis that you were going to lose your current account. They should then write to whoever the new account is with and confirm it’s fine for you to keep the account. You can then start to switch things over as soon as the new account is open.

Nationwide get very good reports on here..so open a basic account with them now.
Is your HSBC account a current or basic account?...
Once your BR is confirmed within a couple of days the examiner will call you within the next couple of days to check on your everyday account and they then notify the banks...it's the banks that decide whether to close or freeze..HSBC are not usually helpful towards BR to be honest.
So swap things to your Nationwide account.
  • I’m looking at a BasicFlex with Nationwide but apparently I can’t open it until I’ve declared myself bankrupt. I’m with HSBC at the mo with a huge overdraft so it’s costing me a fortune in fees !!!

I opened my nationwide the day after submitting my bankruptcy. My NatWest was frozen exactly a week after. On those dates I would submit on pay day. So get paid, withdraw my wages. Submit bankruptcy. Open nationwide and then give ex new details and would then have enough time to change details for UC and payroll. Your ex can change his details with the bank easily, UC and payroll usually need more notice.
