New Job - No Work Contract

I got a job at a branch of carpetright and started two weeks ago, I received a lot of paperwork to fill in on my first day. My bank details, the usual formalities, etc. I handed it all back in the day after the next. I am now two weeks into employment and have not yet received a work contract of any kind. I was told that I would be on probation for Three months, but I should still receive a work contract at least for the probation period, am I correct? What are my rights on this? I’ve been to the manager and I feel like he is making me jump through hoops to get one.

What do you need it for? They have 2 months to provide a written statement but you still have a contract even if its not written.1

I’ve never received a written contract that early in any role I have held.1

If they've taken your bank details that probably is the most crucial thing. Sorry. I've worked for my current company for 8 months, received a handbook and contact for 16k starting salary given payrise 3 months on which was never confirmed in writing, except on the bank statement. In 8 months there has been 1 payslip and a P60. Admin isn't their thing it is why they employ people to do it for them; similar business that deals in square meter pricing for the customer. I just accepted I'd passed probation with the payrise happening and should I wish to leave it is one month with time served now well past a couple of months.1

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering where I would stand in general. I was at my old job for a long time, like a lot of people I was made redundant due to covid 19. I can’t remember how long it took my contract to come through there and from what I remember everything at my previous job was done online (especially later on) I was surprised to see just how much paperwork I was given on my first day. Must be a couple of trees worth, haha.Diamandis said:What do you need it for? They have 2 months to provide a written statement but you still have a contract even if its not written.0 -
I think that's now changed, and a written statement should now be provided from day one. However, there's no effective remedy if it isn't.Diamandis said:What do you need it for? They have 2 months to provide a written statement but you still have a contract even if its not written.
OP, is it possible that there's a staff handbook on an intranet somewhere you should have been pointed to?Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
There's no requirement for a written contract on day one. An offer letter will suffice in terms of the broad terms.Savvy_Sue said:

HR as in Head Office are probably working from home. In these Covid days lots of things are taking far far longer than normal. Be patient I'm sure that the matter will be resolved.Azjso said:I got a job at a branch of carpetright and started two weeks ago, I received a lot of paperwork to fill in on my first day. And I find there's a surprising amount required from day one., but as I said, no effective remedy if it is not.Marcon said:

Worth asking your manager when you can expect it.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Which is fine but it is almost meaningless as there is (in most cases) no redress if it doesn't happen. You can no longer bring an employment tribunal claim, on its own, to enforce this right. Yes, you can add it to some other valid claim (if you have one) but there is still no automatic sanction. The tribunal can, at its discretion, award a couple of weeks additional pay but generally doesn't unless it feels the employer is seriously deficient in other ways.Marcon said:

As others have indicated, a "contract" exists regardless of whether there is a sheet of paper with the word contract on it or not.
