Interesting article in the Telegraph on this subject, how HMRC has taken (Snatched is the headline) £600 Million in IHT from gifts that people made thinking by doing so it would reduce/avoid IHT.

It is there, but you have to look for it.It doesn't look like a normal article because it has no headlines and contains bits of <geek code>.It .is slightly ove half way down.0

The article doesn't really cover the topic being discussed in this thread (unavailability of taper relief on gifts under the NRB). Most of the text was about gifts with reservation.
