Apprenticeships - when does the first year end?

Hello, I’m 20 years old and on a 1 year apprenticeship. I began my apprenticeship on 21st October 2019. It was supposed to finish on 21st October 2020, but because of COVID (businesses being furloughed and not able to have face-to-face observations) it has been extended till 31st January 2021. I carried on completing my apprenticeship tasks and was in regular contact with my apprenticeship tutor throughout the whole year including over lockdown. After the first year, my wage is supposed to increase from apprenticeship wage to the national minimum wage. My boss is insisting that I shouldn’t be getting a pay rise till 31st January 2021, even though I will have been enrolled on the apprenticeship for a year on 21st October 2020. Is he right?
