Looking for Redundancy Advice

Hi, due to the current problems plaguing the world, my employer has made about 25% of the workforce redundant. As part of that process myself and a colleague were given new roles of centralised accountants. We signed the new contracts Monday 28th September, today, Friday 2nd October we have been told that those roles are no longer required and are being made redundant.

My question would be, is this allowed so soon after signing these contracts? It is allowed under all other laws surrounding redundancy, as far as I can tell, but I can find no information regarding my question. I will be contacting Citizens Advice on Monday, but I thought in the meantime I’d ask here.

Thanks for the help.

I'm afraid so, and with the current state of play, your employer won't be the only one in this position. If a role they thought would be required rapidly turns out not to be, there is no law which requires them to make sure it is required. They should certainly be consulting further with you on alternative employment within the organisation. I do hope something satisfactory can be found for you and your colleague.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
