This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning all early one from me DS and DH have gone off to work and i really need to go shopping so rather than go back to bed after the cacophony of different alarms i decided to get up . WM is whirring away and DW will go on after i have finished my cuppa . We spent 4 hours at mums weeding and sanding the front paving in readiness for next Sunday i am shattered and my back aches so will try to take it easier today.
Very windy and wet as forecast so although Miss Dolly will be excited to put her harness and lead on i will probably have to drag her out once i open the door
Dinner tonight freezer roulette
Hope you all have a good day and stay safe and warm with the impending storm xxxSlava Ukraini14 -
Morning everyone
bella - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, dry and not too blustery at the moment, although the forecast says not so good by 9am - when we're supposed to get rain then blustery wind at lunchtime - we'll see. Rain forecast for every day after that until into next week.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, gratin potatoes, broc and carrots - very nice it was too. Tonight will be something and chips.
This morning I'll be heading to the SM for the food shop, then I'll be at home - pottering about. Yesterday I was more productive than I have been, I did give the house a clean so looks much better again, and I kept going with the washing, although I did use the TD for all that could be tumbled dried, changed our bed, got the bed linen washed, dried and put away. Also spent some time menu planning - really trying to use up some of what we have in the freezers and the cupboards - as we have plenty of stocks.
I'm working on Saturday morning, so will chill later.
I did also manage to get hold of the Spa - I was given a gift voucher for my big birthday back in January and not had chance to use it due to covid - I managed to get in touch yesterday for an update on what they are able to do - and spoke to a lovely young lady who advised they are able to do some things and there is a restriction on how many people etc, but they have a Deal that I might be interested in, she gave me all the info and I'm booked in for the end of October - can't wait, really need something like this.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start bella, well done on the gardening. Ooh a spa day nmlc, I could do with one of those myself!
I've hung the washing out as it's due to be a good day but at the moment it's dark and thick fog! Hoping for some sunshine today as it's to be horrid over the weekend.
Great swim again last night then a good chat with DS1, him and the DGC hope to be here at the half term holiday, we'll have to see how things are.
Early finish for me today so I'm having a happy Friday. Hugs to all in need, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks BELLA for the start. All is calm and dry here with the strong wind and rain forecast for tomorrow.
NMLC DD went on a very posh Spa Break last week for 2 nights (mostly paid for with gift vouchers) and was informed beforehand there would be restrictions on certain treatments etc. She was a bit disappointed but once they got there she said it made very little difference as there was lots of pampering etc still available. Enjoy!
It was like old times yesterday with DD and the DGDs here for tea and life almost seemed normal. It's only the second time since March! I do miss their company and I have said we will make it more regular now. Unless there is an outbreak at their schools! DD has a test every Monday at the centre where she works and it's always reassuring when she gets a negative result. There will be the usual Friday update later but I doubt very much our restrictions will be lifted or even eased. As long as they are not tightened further I can cope! My big fear is the Support Bubble will be stopped.
Just the Friday dust and vac around, top to bottom, to do today. Kitchen and bathroom got a thorough clean yesterday. But I noticed yesterday when the sun was on them that the windows are looking in need of a clean inside. Maybe I will do a couple each day - or maybe I won't! Excitement of the day is a grocery delivery this afternoon. I didn't need enough fresh stuff to warrant a Tesco shop this week so I have ordered a few basics off Iceland, topping up with some more frozen veg, fruit and fish to restock the freezers a bit. And well, ok, a couple of bottles of wine may have been added too!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Good morning folks.Last night I slept really well, first time for ages though I'm still reluctant to jump out of my cosy nest.TA - how lovely to hear that a more usual Thursday cheered up your mood.BELLA - take things easy, four hours is a long time for gardening.CAMELOT - enjoy your early finish, it's always a Friday joy.My day is open to suggestions and spontaneity 😀
Happy Friday to all.14 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread bellabella.
Wet and windy here and supposed to carry on raining for 3 days. I'm watching the leaves falling, the downside to living in a lovely green area is raking up the leaves in autumn but I don't plan to do that today, too soggy for me.
I forgot to put glacé cherries for the Christmas cake on the order list, walked up the hill to the shop and they had none but lots of stuff had arrived from the wholesaler and not unpacked so OH can look to see if they have them when he fetches the paper. If not, I'll start soaking the fruit in brandy anyway and will have to venture further afield because I like the cake to have cherries in, OH likes having a couple to eat while I make it. Cheap cake this time, I have enough brandy from last year. Has anyone else made their cake yet? I know that some people don't like it but we do. We don't bother with Christmas pudding though.
I need to do a Friday Tidy and then some phone calls for a piece of work - I produced the report 6 months ago but it needs a little update before submission.
TA sounds as if you had a lovely day yesterday, hope that can continue. Here we can't visit or have visitors except if you are already in a support bubble, how I loathe that expression.
Gers, I bet you will find something interesting to do or a place to explore.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all
Pouring with rain here and blowing a gale bad weather set in for the weekend as well, we had a nice day yesterday dd and I took the dogs to a pet shop where they chose a toy and then on for a lovely walk in the country to a new place so lots of different smells to explore we then stopped at a pub and had lunch out, it was really lovely.
Today we are going to venture to the shops in in the nearest big town, I want to get as many christmas stocking fillers as possible, I have most of the main presents and I can order some more online but little bits and bobs are easier to get in person, so we will hit Primark and hopefully get enough bits there and then come home, I dont want to be out long but I am sure we will go into lockdown at some point again so want to be redy just in case.
We did not have the filled pasta last night as dd and I were still full so I just did OH a quick pie and chips, so we will have that tonight.
Stay safe everyone and have good days xx12 -
Morning all! It is persisting down and looks like it's going to be the same for a few days which is annoying as we were cracking on quite nicely with the pergola. The roof has arrived this mornng, I ended up getting metal corrugated sheeting which will either make it look industrial or plain sheddy. It's nice and shiny new at the moment though. When the seagulls go past on their flight path every day back from the tip I imagine it'll be a different story in a few weeks time.No exciting news to report here, the magic cupboard is doing it's thing, not our cat is annoyed it's raining as he can't go and kill innocent daddy long legs and the house is an absolute tip, I need a Friday bomb drop rather than a tidy which I fear would be completely ineffectual.I will sign on in anticipation of making not a jot of difference to the clutter today...Good to hear you're feeling better Gers. TA, glad you're having family cosy time. And no point cleaning windows when it's raining
AOD, my father made about six or seven every year but I don't think my sister will continue with that. He liked it and we're not that fussed. However, a Christmas pudding with lots of nuts in it and brandy is a favourite of mine so we'lll see if I stir myself to make one of those. Rudy, hope the visit goes well next week and you get a result you want...Scarlet, you can have a medal from me if you like, in fact, anyone who does the ironing can
Nanny, you didn't send a postcard after your trip! Right, helloo to the readers along, stay sharp and pointy and have a fresh start Friday!

Morning all, we've battened down the hatches here as we're in for abysmal weather over the weekend and it seems it's already started.I'm glad we did Dad's shopping and took it up yesterday as the sun was out, but the washing ( yes I foolishly decided to do some after all ) was sopping wet by the time we came back after taking the car for a run. The washing was rinsed, spun again and put on the airer overnight. The Morries shopping arrived on time but with one item missing and six subs, I am a bit disappointed with them as they are subbing items and not letting me know the changes, so I only know they are there when I unpack, then I can't send the item back with the driver because he's long gone.I am waiting for a parcel today it's a present for DGD's birthday, a Barbie Face Mask Spa Playset ( missing my fix of Nelski's place already
) so I shall weigh out some flour from my big sack and put it into smaller bags and also bake a loaf while I wait. I need to set up my B Soc account so that I can access my money online too as I'm not going into their office any time soon. Oh! and we won the lottery last night .........a whole £8 !! Must spend that wisely or it may change my life
Right my parcel has just arrived so I'm off to Barbie's spa for the full works, and boy do I need them.Take care all stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Morning all, bit dull and breezy here. Not much to report as I haven't been anywhere. Our pubs and restaurants can open again this weekend though ( not that we'll be going) so just in line with the other local lockdown rules now.DGS is coming this weekend, we haven't seen him for 2 weeks as he, his Mum & stepdad tested positive. He's been absolutely fine and full of energy, they've had a cough and tiredness but are ok now. He's missed being at school, and has been online gaming with DGD and Facetiming us but it's not the same as seeing him in person.Delivery from Mr T yesterday , and my lovely cheery greengrocer from the market too. I'm really going to try harder to meal plan, I'm well stocked up so no excuse
We had a turkey joint last night with all the trimmings, like a mini xmas dinner
, it was very nice and everyone cleared their plates. Right, less talk more action! take care all x
