Careers Advice: Wrong time to change?

Hi all
After some advice from the clever folk on here. I have worked for Tesco for 12 years - was always supposed to be a short term thing, but hey life gets in the way! The past 7 I have worked for Tesco Mobile. I have just been informed I have been successful for Tesco Bank. However, my concerns are in the press the new CEO of Tesco wants to sell the bank. The job in question is in a call centre. A lot of redundancies in the banking sector at the moment. May be more if the bank so sold.
I thought there would be more opportunities in banking. Initially though I would be earning about £500 a year more, but it would involve 30 mins each way more travelling, and a season ticket costing £2k - so in effect I would be £1500 WORSE OFF.
Is it the wrong time to change career?

I think you've answered your own question. You have not listed one actual positive in moving across to the bank (the salary increase is derisory). If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Is the contact centre actually working from the office or from home now? I know most those I've spoken to recently (not banking but other FS) are all home working.
I think you need to think a bit more about where you want to go... it sounds like you are currently making each jump on the basis of an opportunity that happens to present itself rather than towards a strategic goal. Being in a contact centre is almost the same whether its banking, insurance, airlines or a supermarket and whilst there is an element of "foot in the door" you have to be very lucky to escape into another area of the bank unless your aspiration is in operations management.1
