Its much harder for a 3rd party to walk into a branch and pay funds into a bank account these days. Would Santander even allow this without the card? Halifax dont anymore (my own bank).0

I've done it at NatWest and Santander quite recently.
It may depend on the amount, but the OP is paying in a cheque issued by HMRC, not cash from Joe Bloggs Traders: money laundering concerns don't really apply...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
