It really opens up the space!

ruby_eskimo said:Wow, well done Mr Squirrel! You can tell that having that wall down is going to make a lot of difference! Sofa wise, we always wanted a corner one but ended up going with a two seater from Ikea and then bolted a chaise longue bit onto it so we have a three seater sofa with an extended bit and the foot stool making a U shaped sofa if we wanted to or we can move the footstool to the end of the chaise bit to get more of a L shape. Gives us plenty of options when we have guests over (hahaha :lol) and we can each sit back and have our feet up comfortably. Just an idea, but it works for us.
I may have to rethink my idea about the corner and become more creative... the hunt for something that will fit as a one piece is driving me madddddd. Perhaps I shall buy a 2 or 3 piece set and then at least that way I also have the flexibility of moving pieces around if I so wish to. As for the space, it certainly does open it up! Can't wait until next year so I can get my teeth into it! At the moment the whole colour scheme is grey which I love, but now I am starting to wonder if the house will look 'plain'. I am frightened of making any bold statements by adding a colour theme to a room other than grey!
Not such a pleasant day for expenses today. Me and my little girl are going for our quarterly trim at the hairdressers. She is terrified that they are going to bring out the clippers and shave it all off when she isn't looking no matter how much I reassure her that its just to chop the ends off. This afternoon my big puppy dog is having his monthly bath and brush. He always has one of these in between having a full groom every other 4 weeks as he has soo much hair. Plus he looks so damn good looking!We need to take a trip to B&Q so the minions can pick out their bedroom paint (should prove interesting...). My son is desperate to have his room painted red apart from the feature wall. My daughter is set on light purple which is a great choice. Shall be persuading my son to pick a lighter colour that won't burn our eyes when we open his door!
All the plastering for the bedrooms and landing was finished yesterday and it looks great! Giving it the whole weekend to dry out and then I shall start attacking it with paint next week. Unsure of whether to give it a coat of white first before using the chosen colours...

I think you need to "prime" new plaster before proper painting it.
A watered down wash of white should do the trick.
What a lot done in such short space of time.
At least they didn't choose black!🤣If it's not adding up, compound it!2 -

At least they didn't choose black!🤣Luckily I have enough white emulsion to coat the entire house so I shall do just that. I guess it will also help promote the colours chosen for the rooms too. Spent £84 in total on gloss and bedroom paint. Stupidly forgot to buy some paint for my own bedroom but that's just typical Mum brain. It's all about getting the kids rooms finished. I'll deal with my room later! Thank the heavens they chose a light purple and a light blue. My son begged for the bright red to match his avengers wallpaper... I nearly crumbled and gave in until I showed him what a bright red room would look like and that was enough to change his mind to a more subtle colour. Trims for both myself and my daughter cost £24 this morning. Bath and brush for my giant puppy dog later will be £25. Told the kids I would treat them to a McD's as it is on the same retail park as PetsAtHome.... plus there is a FurnitureLand too! Can't help myself.... shall have to have a little nosey at their sofas!

Well I have gone and done it. After much deliberation since first viewing the property I have pondered profusely over how to remove the god awful ugly trees all the way along both borderlines in my back garden. I have had quotes ranging from £3k up to £6k to remove them and put up new 6ft fencing, I have debated buying a chain saw, an axe, tree stump killer etc. Finally, I took the plunge this morning and bought myself a pair of bolt cutters, an axe and some badass tree stump killer....
What makes this job tricky and has put plenty of people off wanting the work is the fact that the trees have grown up and around the wire fencing separating all three properties, therefore permanently embedded into the tree. This is why I have questioned use of a chainsaw... one hit on the wire and it would bust it right up. I have never swung an axe before in my life... I have never used a pair of bolt cutters.... but my faithful companions Google and Youtube always come to the rescue. I shall no doubt spend the rest of the day watching endless videos of how to make a dent in a tree trying to work up enough balls to go and try it! I shall post a picture at some point of what I am dealing with! The poison instructions are fairly straightforward; I just need to make a few V shaped cut outs as low as possible into the tree trunk so I can paint the inside with the chemicals...
On a less aggressive note, my ACCA exam result for my exam sitting at the beginning of September is due to be released today (midnight to be precise). I won't be able to sleep until I receive that text message with my percentage shortly after 12am. Eeeek fingers crossed I have passed and then it is full steam ahead to studying and revising for my next exam in December!

Oooh have fun! Squirrels chopping down trees 😂 sorry I’m so childish! Just be careful that’s the main thing. I let OH do most of the power tool jobs as I’m terrified of them and they rattle my brain.Good luck for the exam results too. XMortgage started August 2020 £69,700

Depending on how wide they are you could always drill holes all the way around towards the center where you intend to chop them. That may make them easier to chop and the chainmail won't worry a drill bit.

Fingers crossed I get the result I am hoping for. It is certainly a long and tedious wait from exam to results day (or night!). See below for pictures of one of the stumps embedded in the wire fence.

Wow, well done on the trees. I have no idea how you managed to get the tree out of the fence without damaging the fence or yourself so kudos to you both indeed!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20171
