512mb graphics cards are available now, if you have the £605 for a 6800 ultra 512mb card. If your really flush why not get 2 and run them in SLI!!!

Dual channel makes less of a difference on the AMD64's than the P4's but it still makes about 5% difference.

It's an NForce 4 board so it will most likely have 4 slots. Of course, you could always replace the 2 sticks in there. 1 Gb is more than ample for most people. HL2 and Doom3 do show some gains from going from 512 to 1 Gb. Even when I'm running a virtual VMware SBS box and multiple other apps I never seem to run out of memory and I only have 1 Gb.

    Memory on video cards...
Most cards only have 128Mb or less. Game makers know this and tailor the games to suit. In addition, for the 256Mb models most manufacturers use slower RAM chips than 128Mb models to save costs. Hence often a 128Mb card will frequently outperform the 256Mb model. Remember you only need 8Mb at most for the actual display and the rest is used for textures, Z buffering etc. Textures are normally cached. The 512Mb cards are only going to be for bragging rights and as extensions for people's minute genitalia.

    The spec does look good. I've never seen or heard of a Geforce 6645 (6200TC, 6200, 6600, 6600GT, 6800, 6800GT, 6800Ultra).

EDIT - Just done some checking and it appears the card is a Gigabyte GV-NX66128DP Geforce 6600 clocked at 425 (core) / 500 (mem). It has a silent heatsink + heatpipe combo for cooling. The review I saw says it performs in between a Geforce 6600 and a 6600GT.

    Translated review

I find my Gigabyte GV-NX66T128VP 6600GT @ 500/1120 can handle almost anything I throw at it @1240x1024 with all the options switched on. For a true gamer I would upgrade the card to either a 6600GT or a 6800 and sell the supplied on on Ebay.

If this graphics card is only a version of a 6600 not the GT then it's not such a good deal, given that a 6600GT can be got for around £110ish. Should still play most games without too much trouble though.

But I disagree with the poster who said you don't need more than 60Gb of disk space - I'm already up to that on my 80Gb machine and I now have to spend time deleting older stuff that I would really prefer to keep on disk. 300Gb is a decent amount for now, especially if you get into video editing or using your PC as a media centre.

yes, good all round machine for the price
chill blinky. I'm just saying I wouldn't buy it, although the motherboard is meant to be pretty good. In fact I wouldn't buy a PC for a while now, because when PS3 comes out DVD writers will become obselete as they will release blu-ray writers. And as blu ray discs can hold like 50gb, manufacturers are likely to release larger hard drives. Just thinking about the problems that may occur in the long run.

That's my opinion, I ain't got anything against the computer, I'm just thinking about how long the PC will last before you have to buy another one.

Unfortunately computers are out of date almost as soon as you buy it.

Also unfortunately both Toshiba and Sony say that it is highly unlikely that there will be a unified format for Blu Ray and HD-DVD (or whatever it is called). Another VHS vs Betamax fight.

Nobody seems to have pointed out that it doesn't come with a monitor... to get a decent 19" DVI monitor suitable for gaming would push the price over £1000.

It's a fairly nice system, but the price isn't anything special, IMHO.

DVD writers won't become obsolete for many, many years. Blu-ray will be VERY expensive for the first couple of years, and lets face it, most people don't need 50GB of portable storage. A movie will happily fit on a DVD, and loads of people have DVD systems to play them back in their living rooms. They are established, and people are happy with them. They spent a fortune on a DVD home cinema setup and wont want to change it just yet.

It'll be a looooong time before a lot of people have Blu-ray, if ever. As someone else pointed out, Blu-ray is not the only format out there... it may turn out to be the equivalent of Betamax, or BSB... remember the "squarial"?

The thing about technology is, there's ALWAYS something better around the corner.

So, if you put off buying now, in a few years time you'll be looking at a machine with Blu-ray and you'll be thinking "hmmm, but if I wait a while there's a new thing coming out called 'holobubble discs' which hold a terabyte of data..."

This isn't too good. I have seen tiny doing better deals than this.

"Graphic Card with 128MB & GeForce 6645" - They are going to have 512mb ones coming out soon.
"1024 MB DDR 400 RAM (2 x 512 MB Dual Memory)" - Should have been one 1gb module
"Seagate Hard Drive 300GB Serial" - Some pc's come with up to 500gb now

Does this mean .. I can present this more intelligently than you?
