Non diabetic-do u use blood glucose meter

i was wondering about my blood glucose levels for various reasons but I am not diabetic. I bought a sinocare blood glucose meter to test but today noticed my first ‘fasting’ reading was high so did it again straight away and it was to me wildly different from 7.1 the first time to 5.3 the second. I know I can test my meter by purchasing a special solution but after reading about this as long as the results are within what is to me a wide variance it doesn’t seem worth it. I know they are not totally accurate but I just wanted an idea of my levels without bothering go . I would be interested if others have bought a similar kit and what they think

5.3 and 7.1 are not 'wildly different', and both are perfectly normal.
I can't think of any reason why a non-diabetic person would want to have a home blood glucose test kit. Do you suffer from health anxiety?1 -
If you are a none diabetic than you have no reason to really. However if you are concerned there is no harm keeping an eye on the levels. Strips can be quite expensive depending on the meter used.0

I bought a metre after a test showed that I was borderline diabetic(42), it took a while to get to know how the metre worked. But I haven't bothered using it since. I had another blood test and my reading was (41).0

Isnt that a bit odd? Testing yourself for stuff that you dont have?
Cut out refined carbs, eat healthy and dont worry.

I can understand it, I recently was debating whether to buy a home testing kit for the menopause when I found that was an option in these times when seeing a doctor isn’t always possible/achievable.
My gran had it easy, going back years I remember as a little girl she’d just have to pee on a stick and assess it against the stick tube container - Crazy memories but I bet it was easier then the blinking machine. OP have you tried the diabetes UK forum?0 -
Some people buy a dual blood glucose and ketone meter, if they are on a ketogenic diet, as it enables them to track how well they are doing. They want to know if they are producing the optimal amount of ketones, which their body uses as fuel. Using the blood glucose meter after a meal/snack which is carb heavy, shows how much that meal/snack is pushing their blood glucose up. Too many carbs will kick them out of ketosis (fat burning to produce ketones).
People with pre-diabetes will also find a blood glucose meter useful, to work out which foods push their blood glucose up the most. That's useful, for cutting out the bad stuff for YOUR body.0
