Two job interviews - awaiting outcome of the one I prefer - what to do?

Hi all. After some advice. I had a second (and final) interview for a potential new role last week for a role I’d love. Told I’d either hear Thursday last week or Tuesday next week - as I’ve not heard yet I’m assuming (perhaps wrongly) that it’s a close race so they’re mulling it over the weekend.

At the same time also found out my current boss wants to meet next week to talk about expanding my role more. In an awkward spot of not wanting to lead my boss on too much if I then get offered this new role.

Do I write to the potential new role explaining the situation (and that I’d prefer their role), or do I just bear with it patiently until they let me know the outcome rather than pushing it?

  • I'd wait for the outcome naturally. Anything that needs pushing may not be for the best. At the start of this year I accepted a job on a Thursday at just after 2pm and then had to wait until nearer 4pm following day to hear about the overiding 'like the sound of that one more' would never have dreampt forcing an answer earlier that day and took the flack quite literally on the Monday when turning one down after deciding over weekend. Such as life.
