Moto G7 Power won't send text

Out of the blue today my Moto G7 Power won't send a text. I am at home with my normal wi-fi connected for the internet on my laptop, tablet and Moto G7 Power mobile 'phone as normal. When I try to send a text a message comes up saying: "Not sent. Tap to try again." When I try again it says: "Mobile data is turned off. Check your settings."
... I have just edited my post: I noticed that it said MMS and not SMS when trying to send the text. I do not know how this happened but, on trying again (just a brief text) to 'check' the text sent straight away as SMS.
Although I don't understand - I am just glad my 'phone is working all right with texts sending normally again.
Thank you for reading.

Similar happened to me a few days ago. Could send or receive texts but other functions ok. Turning the phone off and then on again fixed it.1

To quote IT Crowd 'Have you tried turning it off and on again?'
My mum's Moto G4 occasionally does this and a reboot gets SMS working again.1 -
Thank you very much for your replies - I had amended my post before seeing your replies, sorry. To be on the safe side I have just restarted my 'phone and it seems to be all right.Maybe it was just a 'blip.'Thank you again.Crimson0

Maybe as simple as the your provider's message network servers being briefly down.1

Was it a long text? This happened to me a while ago (different phone), I typed such a long message that the phone converted it from SMS to MMS (multi-media message) and of course you have to have data or Wi-Fi switched on.2

Thank you Le_Kirk - now that you mention it, it was a long text. That makes sense: My 'ordinary' Wi-Fi was working normally but, as I mentioned, I never have my mobile 'phone Wi-Fi /Data switched on. I only have a monthly Wi-Fi (Data) allowance of about 250 mb. I have never used it but like it being there just in case of emergencies. My mobile 'phone contract is with EE - do you know if EE has a particular limit about how long texts can be before they need MMS and their mobile Wi-Fi?I'll be aware of this in future and it would be helpful to have an idea of the limit and if the limit would vary according to the provider (EE) or according to the type of mobile 'phone - e.g. Moto G7 Power.Thank you very much for bringing it to my attention Le_Kirk.Crimson0

SMS messages can only be 160 characters. How longer messages are handled is carrier dependant (some convert the message to MMS )
