O/S Daily Saturday 26 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light blustery but dry underfoot.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight will be veg rice, pasta in a sauce, sweet chilli chicken skewers and prawns in sauce.
Lunch tomorrow will be roast beef with the trimmings.
Yesterday I did get jobs done I wanted to, so will just potter about today.
Keep safe and well x

Hi nmlc, it's not often I'm the first after you. I've been at Laura's the last two days. Their covid tests came back negative but Esben wasn't well enough for nursery so I went down to look after him. He was great on Thursday but went downhill again yesterday so Laura had a video consult with the Dr who prescribed antibiotics. I can't believe they won't see a baby in person, especially with the negative test result but to see someone in person would have meant a visit to hospital. Hopefully the medicine will see him on the mend. I came home last night.
In other news, my hips are agony, partly I think due to all the bending lifting and playing on the floor but mainly because I tripped on a toy, almost did the splits and luckily landed in an armchair, jarring my shoulder which has only just healed after 2 years! My shoulder is ok today thankfully but my hips are sore from nearly being wrenched asunder. A quiet day is in order today.
I probably won't be second after nmlc now, just in case people think I'm delusional.14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Sunny here but cold, we had a long day yesterday helping another boat on to the Thames, Steve helps with the locks I did the bridges, it took me until 8 to warm up as I was chilled through.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning
I'm madly fighting the desire to put the heating on here its bloomin freezing but the thought of it been on in Sept is winning through. Its lovely and sunny so hopefully it will warm up a bit later
Asda man been and gone and not too bad considering all the news I even got eggspoor fella was stressed again with all the extra orders. I just had my usual and none of the usual suspects and fortunately wine is not on limited stock
Managed to get rid of the turntable it was a bit weird as he wanted to see if it worked but no house mixing so I had to plug in by the front door and play a very old yazoo record to demonstrate. H e went away happy so that's a bit of bin space saved.
Sausage casserole brewing away in the slow cooker with tons of veg in so that should keep me cosy later with some crusty bread.
Has anyone seen the netflix documentary The Social Dilemma? well worth a watch and makes you think
Big news here my mop arrived this morning so I am looking forward to new sparkly floors ........grief thats sad before you tell me
Have a good day all

Morning all. It really is Saturday. I've checked twice to make sure.
Happy Mop Day Nelski.
Snoozer, it sounds like a feet-up HW bottle day for you. You forget how dangerous toddlers can be!
Here, apart from turning the apple juice into apple jelly, it is newspaper day with all those puzzles and crosswords to be done.

Dry and bright here with a really good breeze I have a towel wash on the go and will hang it out it should dry really well today, OH will put his work clothes in after.
We lit the log burner yesterday and it was bliss !! I was asleep within minutes and both dogs were in their beds with legs in the airI may light it this evening as well as it does warm the whole of downstairs through, dd hung some washing on the airer in the evening and its almost dry so I will give that a quick turn in the td and then it can go away.
Housework this morning and then out with the dogs for a good walk, dd is off to see a friend tonight just in case we have another lockdown and she cant go for a while so I shall puppy sit, so we need to wear them out this afternoon.
Dinner tonight for OH and I will be a fresh tagliatelle with prawns and chorizio will get a nice dry white to go with it I am looking forward to it.
Snoozer take it easy today xx
Nels I am very envious of your new mopenjoy my lovely xx
Have good days all xx15 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Flipping 'eck it was a very nippy start hereabouts and as I am not as brave as NELS I put the heating on for a bit to take the chill off. It's lovely and sunny now but not forecast to get above 12 deg. Winter is a coming!
I went in town on the first bus down as I needed to go to the Post Office for its 9 a.m. opening, I had a card to send to Oz. Very quiet at that time as most shops don't open till 10.00 now. I had half an hour before the next bus back up so got a few essentials in Bodycare and then a wander round Poundland where I gathered up a few more bits and bats. No empty spaces on any of the shelves so no evidence that the panic buying brigade had been in there.
The remaining excitement of the day now is a Tesco delivery this afternoon. If there are any items not available it won't be a great loss unless it happens to be my wine and Sparkle's Tasty Stix! The ironing pile is growing so I suppose I ought to tackle that next job if I cba. It's mostly tee-shirts and as I won't be needing them for a good while there is no rush for them!
Needless to say we are STILL, 8 weeks on, in the local lockdown, and now joined by even more areas. They say the cases are still increasing so obviously this lockdown is having no effect and is likely to go on for much much longer. It's too depressing to even think about. I'm just glad I adopted Sparkle in January before it all kicked off as it means I can talk to her rather than the walls!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe x

Morning all, the sun has got his hat on again, but we still have that strong biting wind.I had to finish drying off the washing on the airer yesterday, I put it in the spare bedroom to get this mornings sun so it's all dry now.Today I have stripped the bed and the bedding is doing it's thing in the wm, I'll try to wrestle it onto the line later. Could end up in Weston-Super-Mare if I'm not careful and hold on for dear life ! Then the bedroom will get a going over before re-making the bed and I'll also give the bathroom a clean. In other news we are on the watch list for a lockdown as we've had 40 cases in 3 days, not a lot as others but we're only a small borough and we never had that many in any week the first time round. There's been a case this week in SIL's school and lots of other schools up and down the valley. IMO I think the children are super spreaders and pass it on to lots of adults who then unknowingly take it to work or into the shops.Mr Fix It is still speaking gibberish but the tablets are really strong and he doesn't move far from his chair, he certainly couldn't drive anywhere as he'd be a danger to himself and others. For tea yesterday all he wanted was a chip butty, so I don't know what he will want today, I'll go with the flow.Snoozer hope the hips mend soon, those toys are tricksy things. I once fell over DGS's toy box and slammed into the wall, ended up in A&E and came out with my arm in a sling !Nelski when you've finished dancing around with your new mop could you waltz it over my kitchen floor, please, please.RedRuby we had the fire on last night too, lovely and toasty.Monna thanks for that thought...... how apt for me at present. Enjoy your puzzling.Bella enjoy your visit.Take care all, stay safe and sane.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently15

Good morning folks.SNOOZER 😱😢 what a nightmare! I hope all your pains ease soon.I've been out shopping already, it's a glorious morning though very cold.DM's friend is not coming today. They decided against it because of the increase in virus cases where we are (near to Glasgow uni). He only goes to the local Tesco once a week, DM goes nowhere and I shop within five miles so I think they are being ultra-careful. Can't blame them as he's 75 and she's 92. Meanwhile, I'll be glad of the rest! The AB's make me feel a tad rotten. Now I have to unpack the shopping! Happy Saturday to all.14

Afternoon everyone
I put my heating on low this morning, but my excuse is that little grand daughter was here and her hands were cold. She's with her daddy today but will come back and stay overnight about 6pm. I've been into town this morning as I had a prescription to collect and some bits to get in Home Bargains. Walked back over to mam and dad's for a little while and then back home to rescue the washing - it is really windy here again today.
Eldest DD is hopefully coming home from Sweden next Friday for a few days. There will only be the two of us in the house and she'll visit my mam and dad, but they'll sit in the garage. She's worried that if she doesn't come now, things will get worse and she won't be able to come back at Christmas. Fingers crossed everything will be ok.
Well I'm going to have a look at my Tesco shop I have coming tomorrow, then do my ironing. Than a cuppa and my book.10
