Having a moan

Anyone want to join me in having a good old moan. Hopefully feel better afterwards. AIP from Santander on 9th Sep & application submitted with all possible documents you could wish for. On 14th they requested a letter to say I wasn’t on furlough, submitted it immediately (had actually already submitted). On 15th requested letter of salary details (had already submitted on 9th). On 21st asked for a letter to say I wouldn’t be made redundant in the foreseeable future. Mortgage broker said he’d never seen such a request and he would appeal it. Apparently due to COVID, Santander deem certain industries as high risk, working for an airline I work for one of them. Appealed the request on 22nd & was told would hear within 24 hours. 25th & still no response. It’s infuriating. Santander social media team contacted, their response, no problem phone this number & we’ll help. Called the number & was told, ‘we can’t help, go to your broker & wait.’

Reading the threads I know I’m not alone & so many of you have been waiting over a month. I just can not believe the poor service so many people are receiving. I don’t believe COVID can be used as an excuse for poor service when we’re 6

That’s my moan. Quite possibly I have high expectations & sound like Victor Meldrew. But frustrations are really getting to me.

sadly covid has brought on more risk to lenders and they are reducing their risk appetite understandably in order to comply with mortgage regulations. My simple remortgage took 6 weeks to offer.

I would be looking for a new lender personally.
I have not seen any lender go to that level of detail BUT I can certainly see it from their perspective. If I was lending someone the money, I dont think I would be lending it to someone who works for an airline in the current climate.

As an employer I would regrettably have to decline to issue any such letter in the current climate, not many sectors where that could be signed with 'foreseeable future' in it, and certainly not the airline industry...
Reduced to 'not currently contemplating' would be more possible.

Hi MWT, exactly... there’s not a company in the world which would issue a letter. It’s crazy, especially when you see Next announcing thousands of jobs going. I wonder if they will ask the same for all retail employees.
  • I’d like to have a moan about solicitors, mine has been useless not responding to emails, promising phone calls back nothing.

finally start getting someone completion date is mentioned from buyer by his solicitor I email mine and low and behold he’s on annual leave and emails will not be monitored!

  • Yeah solicitors I could join in with. My broker has been brilliant, Halifax have been quicker than I could have imagined with AIP, survey, mortgage offer.

Developer’s solicitor? Dreadful. My solicitor doesn’t start their process until contract documentation is received from the developer’s solicitor. It took them from 11th September to 25th September to get paperwork sent even though it was all ready to send. Blamed difficulties with people working at home, blamed postal delays, then eventually re-printed and sent by special delivery. Given the developer gave us 28 days to complete we lost half that because of their solicitor.
