Yes they have given me all of the £903 back (all of the tax i paid 2024-25) but i had expected to have £2768 back in tax (20% as I was led to believe by NHS pensions).

You can't receive a refund of tax you haven't paid. That seems to be the sticking point here.

NHS Pensions should have a recording of your call. If you complain to them, they'll review that recording and check what their agent told you.

Assuming it was recorded (not all calls are) and f they still have it - the usual policy is to delete after 6 months, so OP needs to check quickly in the hope it's still on the system.
