Can I get a job and immediately be furloughed?

"Thank you so much for this. "
Not a problem. I think it's very easy to be short sighted and not see the full picture, and everybody is in a bad position right now.
I can actually understand why people might be envious, knowing someone is getting paid without an obligation to do the same work, but as I said before, nobody gets anything for nothing and I do have a lot of concern for people not working who have no had the choice, because they will become the obvious targets if it comes to the case where people have to be cut.
Nobodies asked for this and in that sense everyone should be wanting to work as thats the only way money for anyone gets made, and I've a lot of sympathy for those who want to work and are unable to do so.

No it's not. Being paid to sit at home is not the same as being paid to do a job.Comms69 said:
Yes i have, it's not applicable.Chomeur said:
Quite possibly. s. 149 Equality Act 2010. Have you thought about it?Comms69 said:
You think age discrimination like this is illegal?Chomeur said:
No of course life's not fair. But there are laws that go some way to make it so. Isn't the policy rather ageist? Younger people entering the job market now get £400/month, older people who have had a job get much more. That might be a route to challenge it.Comms69 said:
Whoever told you life was fair lied.Chomeur said:Probably not. But it seems hugely unfair. People on furlough are effectively unemployed but are paid £1-2000/month by the government. If you don't have a job to be furloughed from then all you can do is live on savings, or claim benefits of about £400/month once they have gone (and probably then be obliged to spend 35 hours/week looking for work, which you won't find).
Is there a solution to this?
In reality people on furlough are unemployed. The government doesn't want it to look as if they are because the unemployment rate is such a headline figure.
It's not unlawful to pay people differently due to experience. Which is the fundamental point you're alluding to
I can pay you £9 an hour to haul bricks, and pay someone else £50 an hour to sit on his backside.

I'd've loved to be furloughed for a month (more than that and I'd get bored), but then I'm just grateful to have a secure job in the current climate.
But the answer is no, unless you're a maternity returner, the furlough ship has sailed, and in case is only continuing for the next month anyway.
You can't go on to the new scheme as a new starter either.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Its very hurtful for those of us who have been furloughed at any point during this pandemic, to read posts like this
I was unfortunately furloughed for just over 5 weeks. I got called at 9pm on a Wednesday night asking me to go back in at 7 am Thursday - and I was there
Furlough meant I was kept employed by an employer who's business was adversely effected by the lockdown. As we emerged from it, business picked up, and I was brought straight back in
Furlough meant I didn't have to try to find work elsewhere which helped my employer in as far there were trained staff ready to start straight away so he was back up and running as soon as demand dictated
I was petrified whilst on furlough, Im mid 50s, what chance did I have of finding a job with unemployment running so high?
Im not out of the woods yet. We won't have the Christmas trade to bolster profits. Right now where I work we are working on bare minimum staffing levels so as there won't be any lay offs this year
In my case, and I reckon for millions, furlough has kept us in work and whilst 80% of not a lot was next to nowt, and I had to use the credit card,Ive come out the other side without being a further drain to the tax payer

I wish more people had the same attitude as good yourself. One day we will be out of this dark tunnel and into the light again. It's the foundations laid now that will determine the speed of the rebound.Apintplease said:Its very hurtful for those of us who have been furloughed at any point during this pandemic, to read posts like this
