Balance transfer

Hi guys I'm new to the forums, need a bit of advice.
I had just about budgeted for xmas as I have bonus pay from work however I had an accident on the motorway yesterday and luckily nobody else was involved and I'm OK, however I now have to pay out for excess on my insurence and other costs such as alternative transport.
Now I'm not looking forward to Xmas spending:eek:
I'm planning on transfering my balance on my credit cards (2 cards) for a 0% transfer, however I think I'm gonna have to use some credit just to get through chritmas.
Should I wait until January to transfer current debt plus whatever is put on over christmas or should I do it before in order to lower December's payments?
Please help
