O/S Daily Tuesday 22 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark but dry. Weather forecast to start raining from tonight/tomorrow - possibly for next 3 days.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for wok. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was hunters chicken, mash and veg. Tonight will be fish, chips/baked potato, beans/veg.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad at work although there were some tech issues again - hopefully they will be sorted today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
It's breezy this morning but still dry for now, rain due this afternoon and all tomorrow but we've had a good couple of days so can't complain.
I went swimming last night, first time in a pool since March and I was terrible! It was a real slog and felt really slow but I'm so glad I went, I'll be going again tonight. There were only 9 folk in the pool, apparently there can be 35 but that would be awful so hope it stays quiet. I'm hoping that the new lockdown rules we'll be having this week don't include the pools as I would like to go back to going before work but we'll see.
I have a plumber coming today to fit a remote stop valve as the one I have is quite inaccessable, in the cellar and few a few of the rooms down there. This one will mean I could turn the water off from the laundry if I need to. The water board came yesterday to clear the toby on the pavement as it was full of muck - great service from them.
Work was scarily quiet yesterday, hoping it's a bit busier today as it made for a long day!
Happy Tuesday, take care. XX13 -
Morning all didn't get on yesterday as DH and I went to the zoo for the day I haven't been since the children were little we just wanted a change of scenery I did enjoy it and glad we went it was a lovely day lots of social distancing as there were very few people there.
My nerves got the better of me the other day as I feel like this year has been so pants so i have stopped watching the news and reading the paper online and we are just going to get through this the best we can as for DD2's 3rd try at a wedding and our holiday who knows we will just have to be flexible my biggest fear is not getting this done before my mum gets too ill to attend . Mum and I had calls from the hospice palliative care team and they were so lovely it was nice to talk to them and it just to be a normal conversation .
Right today DH and I are off to B&Q to get some bits for the main bedroom other than that we will start taking up the stair carpet as its bin day tomorrow so I can distribute amongst the neighbours bins in small pieces. Dinner tonight is pie ,mash and liquor for those of you not sure its a parsley sauce very popular in the east end of London they used to have it with jellied eels but i draw the line at that .
Have a good day whatever you are up to hugs to all those who are unwell ,worried or just need some extra strength right now xSlava Ukraini12 -
Good morning everyone. My physio session yesterday was interesting. She did a full assessment and then gave me three exercises to do. One new one with the other two modified versions of ones I already do. I had to drive under the stadium to find the entrance, huge double doors creaking open like something from an action film, and then I drove too far along and ended up right on the side of the pitch, the grass was stunning. The condition and colour was just beautiful, I thought of CAMELOT as her grass is brilliant too. This afternoon I have my two hour dental bone graft surgery. 😱 Two hours with my mouth open is rather daunting, however it needs to be done. I've made jelly and custard for my evening meal though I'll add in a mashed banana for some vitamins. 😃
I hope to read lots of news about high energy, great achievements and contented animals. Talking of animals - where is TRU? And SCAMP?Happy Tuesday to all.13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. GERS sorry no tales of high energy and great achievements from me but Sparkle is more contented since the steroid jab and anti b's. So 1 out of 3 aint bad!! Today doesn't sound much fun for you, I hope it's as bearable as it can be. I had a dental check up booked for October, made at my last appointment, but I wasn't surprised yesterday to get a text cancelling it!! Fortunately I'm not having any problems (yet!)
I tackled the back garden pots yesterday and cut some stuff back. I was all plans to attempt the front today but my arms ache before I start from lugging heavy pots around. It may get done bit by bit we shall see!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx

Morning all
Dry and bright here but rain due tomorrow and its meant to get a lot cooler, I might fill up the log basket in readiness in case we want to light it soon.
Usual today of dog walk and tidy up I will find a bigger job to tackle as I am trying to do one each day, the dw needs emptying and refilling with the breakfast things.
I am on furlough till the end of October and then I have some holiday to use, I have had an email from work asking for a meeting which we have arranged for a few weeks time, I have a hosp appointment on the 6th Oct and the work meeting will be after this, its to go over my options going forward, I am not physically able to do my job as it was at the moment so I am hoping there will be an alternative, my job is very physical with lots of lifting and on your feet all day and there is just no way I can do that at the moment, the lady I am meeting is nice and very easy to speak to so I am comfortable to tell her how I am feeling, I just wonder if there is an alternative job for a while.
I have the dogs bedding on the go in the wm and will hang it out for a while and I will go on a hunt for more seeing as its the last nice day for a few days.
Right better get on have good days all xx13 -
Ruby, fingers crossed they can sort something out for you.
Laura rang this morning to say that Esben has a cough so they are quarantined. She's been trying to book a test without success. I would think it's more than likely he has picked up a cold at nursery (he has a runny nose as well) but you never know. I feel very frustrated that I can't go and help out.
Steve's gone to play golf and I am sitting with all the windows and doors open because we let off a flea bomb in the living room last night, it seems to have dissipated now. We also put one in our bedroom (we've been sleeping in a spare room for a few days) but that smells quite smoky still even with the windows wide open. Hopefully that will have sorted the pesky things.14 -
Morning all, been up half the night as Mr Fix It wasn't well so may have a nana nap later and/or an early night, fingers crossed for a better night. (He's already snoring his head off in his chair !) The weather today is still sunny but there is definitely a scent of autumn in the air. Looking further down the valley early this morning there was an eerie mist which hid anything lower down and looked like something out of Jurassic Park. ( I was waiting for the Brachiosaurus to walk along
)
As predicted yesterday another 4 areas in lockdown and another 8 being watched, ours and another west of us are ok.... for now.Had the As*a delivery, the driver was a lovely, helpful man and we swapped cancer stories as his daughter is going through the wringer too. I felt for him as she's only young with 4 children and there's not much hope for her. He mentioned that things are going bonkers shopping wise again but anyway nothing missing from mine and just 8 subs. Kids banana for normal ones, yeast sachets for a tub, pork chops for pork steaks etc however nothing major. It's all been washed and disinfected etc but needs putting away except the frozen, that's already been done. I took down the plastic bird feeder to wash it yesterday so I must fill it and re-hang it today as I'm getting dirty looks from the birds, then later I'm hoping to just sit in the sun with my kindle.Right enough from the Waffler for Wales, I'll leave you in all peace.Gers good luck today at the dentist.RedRuby sorry about the job problem, hopefully they can find you something less hands-on.Hope everyone can have a reasonably good day, whatever you're doing.Take care all, stay safe and well.nan xxPS sorry snoozer cross posted with you. I hope Esben will be ok, seems colds in schools are rife.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently14 -
Despite my reluctance I have been achieving already - I've ironed for the first time in almost 15 years and it just reinforced my view that it's mostly pointless! The curtain linings needed ironing after being washed and folded up since early March, they are just cotton but very big. I was dismayed to find that two are one width and two and a width and a half. Luckily they don't need to be as crease-free as a shirt or blouse and I decided that they will get creased when being hung and also when the curtains are open so I'm not stressed about the odd wrinkle.RR - my fingers are crossed for you and your job.SNOOZER - it's just a big worry for you all right now, I hope that Esben will be fine soon.TA - good to hear that Sparkle is symptom free.I'm having a short rest after my kitchen exertions. I hope never again.13

Good morning, just, from Chez Nous. Sunny and bright so coffee was drunk slowly in the garden in the sun. The arbour only gets sunny in the late afternoon this time of the year. Equinox today... eek. The summer has flown by. Mundane things today including admin/banking etc. Might get out this afternoon on the bike. Long time since I rode it as we have been busy elsewhere all summer.Still eating the runner beans and the leaves as a salad together with the home grown cherry tomatoes.Eating the freezer contents and oddments from the cupboard as i cannot be bothered to go shopping.10

Afternoon all,I've come in for a breather as I've been wrestling heavy pots too TA, & wanted to get it in the green bin before they came to empty it this morning. It was nice out at the front but it's gone dull nowI was hunting in the freezer for some soup and found some lentil & bacon, but could hardly shut the drawer as the top was iced up so have taken the drawers out to defrost.Last night DH/DS were quite late home but he rang to say one of DS neighbours had given him a bag full of quails eggs to try as they are laying like mad.Not sure how many he has. Never having tried them before I looked up some recipes & settled on the easiest, crispy bacon on sourdough rolls and the dinky eggs fried. They were lovely but reminded us of those fried egg sweets. I thought it was very kind as DS hasnt even moved in yetI had a nice walk yesterday and then sat in the sun on the park for a while. Got a nice surprise as a lady I worked with for years at school walked past with her DH so we had a distanced natter catching up, haven't seen her for at least 2-3 years.RR hope they can sort you a job out.Hope Esben is better soon Snoozer.Right... back to my defrosting freezer, take care all xx
