CGT appeal

Long shot but here goes... I’ve just sold my house with my civil partner which we lived in for the first 10 years of ownership, renting it out for the last and final 5 years. It’s our only home (we’ve rented in the UK for the last 5 years). We were all lined up to exchange and complete in March this year (well in advance if the changes to CGT) but the chain was put on hold following government advice pre-lockdown. Is there any chance I could appeal (successfully!) to HMRC to have the pre April 2020 CGT rules applied?

No, because it is the date of exchange that sets the disposal point for CGT, and that will be after 5 April 2020.1
