So what are the funds available less than 1% then? (it has to have them as its an auto-enrolment scheme)

The active plus funds have been poor performers compared to similar multi asset funds . Just a word of warning !

Their approach to lifestyling also appears to be something I'd only do to an enemy. Perhaps best to completely avoid this part of their investment range and pick things that are expected to do less harm to retirement prospects.

deltrotter, to narrow down the choices, first eliminate everything that has "active plus", "passive plus", "pre ret" or "at ret" in the name. In the things that remain those containing "global equity" or "global bonds" are likely to be most interesting, with ones also including "tracker", "passive" or "index" likely to be  cheapest.

Why eliminate "passive plus" and then include "passive"?

SL offer Passive Plus Pensions and Passive Plus Strategic Lifestyle Profiles as they do for Active Plus so you can have Passive Plus without lifetsyling.

I think Jamesd meant Passive as a generic term rather than a SL one .
I have an old  SL pension and the service /website/discount are all good . However as I have learnt more about my pensions and investments I realised that these SL insured pension products are poor and often they are invested in each other, so whichever version you have the problem is the same . Partly it is due to too much UK weighting.
In a recent survey of workplace pensions the default pension funds of SL came out the worst.
When I do my final pensions consolidation before drawdown, then SL will be the one to go for this reason .
